While Sony is still officially as silent as a yogi in a monastery, the music of rumors is getting louder. The WF-1000XM6, the next generation of its ultra-popular wireless headphone series, is about to reveal all its sonic secrets. Or at least some of them. And now—while we don't have a release date, a box, or a commercial featuring a Japanese DJ—we already know enough to form a pretty clear (and pretty excited) idea.
Sony apparently he conducts some kind of sound astrology of his own – WF-1000XM3 they arrived in August 2019, XM4 June 2021, XM5 July 2023. Two years apart and always in the summer, when people are hot enough to impulsively buy headphones. According to this logic, the Sony WF-1000XM6 is waiting for us between June and August 2025. Of course, unless Sony cooks up some unexpected plot twist. According to the latest information from the PR services, the presentation may take place very early in June 2025. So in the first days of next month.

Meanwhile, rumors on Weibo suggest that the release will also be linked to the launch of the WH-1000XM6's bigger brothers. When the big ones come, the little ones come. Family dynamics, that's right.
What are the Sony WF-1000XM6 supposed to bring?
1. An ANC that no longer listens to the children, the boss, or reality
The WF-1000XM5 were already masterfully quiet. But the XM6 are said to go even further—with better algorithms, faster chips, and perhaps even the ability to tell the difference between unwanted noise and the inner monologue of an existential crisis. Sony, if this really works, you have our vote.
2. Sound that looks straight into your soul – Sony WF-1000XM6
There's talk of a new driver, an even smarter processor, and a "sound engine." While it sounds like something out of a Tesla, it's supposed to mean more dynamics, more range, and that sweet clarity you recognize from the first seconds of a song. In translation: bass that you don't just hear, you feel in your chest—without making your whole head shake.
3. A battery that lasts longer than your Tinder date
The WF-1000XM5 lasted up to 24 hours, which is not bad, but the competition is already climbing to 30 and beyond. So we expect the Sony WF-1000XM6 to bring at least another hour or two of listening freedom. Just enough so that you don't get that "battery low" shock in the middle of the day when you're in the middle of an album or a heated Zoom.
4. A fit that doesn't fall out of your ears with every smile
The XM5s were already smaller and lighter than their predecessors, but they weren't for everyone. Now, Sony is finally offering more eartips and perhaps even a slightly modified design. The goal? So you don't have to fix your headphones every time you yawn or roll your eyes.
5. Calls that sound like a studio recording
Three microphones on each earbud, wind protection, noise cancellation... We already know all this. The Sony WF-1000XM6 is said to further refine this system - because we deserve to not have our friends ask us while walking on a windy embankment: "Are you underwater or in a washing machine?"
Price: Get your wallet ready, but hope dies last
The XM5 cost around 399 USD / around 399 euros. Logic says that the Sony WF-1000XM6 will not be cheaper. But the hope is that Sony will make some kind of price gesture. Realistically? Let's prepare a credit card, console ourselves with the thought that it is an investment in mental health. And sound. And prestige. But one thing is clear. If ever, then it is worth buying the current headphones today, as they are 32% percent cheaper than on the day of the presentation – Their price is exceptional – only 294 euros.
Connectivity that keeps up with the pace of the future
Bluetooth 5.3, …5.4….? Most likely. New LE Audio codec LC3? Almost certainly. AptX Adaptive? Yeah, that would be nice. In any case, Sony is clearly betting on greater efficiency and less interference. So that the connection is as stable as your favorite Spotify playlist.
And protection – if the WF-1000XM5 still floats at IPX4 (read: a little water is okay), we expect the XM6 to deliver IP54 or even better. A little dust and dirt shouldn't be a problem anymore. These are headphones for real life, not for a display case.
Conclusion: Will we say “wow” again this year?
If at least half of the rumors are true, we're in for a product that's even better in every way: quieter, louder, smarter, longer (lifetime, of course). Will this be the ultimate audio experience for the urban tribe of 2025? Everything suggests that it will be.

Until then: keep the WF-1000XM5 (or buy them at a great discount here), set Google Alert to »Sony WF-1000XM6" and pray it's not too expensive. Or at least it comes in white - because, let's be honest, black is a bit worn out.
