The cultural-tourist route of Gorski Kotar and Primorje, under the name of the Frankopan Road, is inspired by the legacy of the famous Croatian Frankopan family, which from the beginning of the 12th century in the area of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, left numerous testimonies of its influence and power. This interesting and beautiful route includes seventeen castles and three sacral complexes, eight of which have interpretation centers.
The project combines the natural, cultural and touristic offer of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and is a great incentive for the development of the coastal hinterland and Gorski Kotar.
The path is truly rich with unique attractions and cultural contents. That is why the adventure that comes from Krk, Vinodol or Gorski kotar is very exciting. The Stara Sušica castle is certainly among the most beautiful and original castles on the "Frankopan roads", which is definitely worth a visit.
Stara Sušica Castle is indeed a real historical gem of Gorski kotar. It is located near Ravna Gora at 800 meters above sea level in an untouched, century-old forest with a variety of flora and fauna.
According to some sources, in the Middle Ages Frankopani had a town in Old Sušići, which even the Turks could not conquer during their fierce campaigns in 1586. In the 19th century, the castle was owned by Count Laval Nuget, and in 1890 it was bought by Rijeka merchants Feliks and Josip Neuberger. Both Nuget and the Neubergers thoroughly renovated the castle in the romantic spirit of their time, and the castle remains to this day. Stara Sušica Castle today it is owned by the city of Rijeka, which allows you to enjoy its charms. In more recent history, the castle was opened for primary school trips for children, adults are also welcome: Stara Sušica welcomes organized groups whose visit is organized by companies, associations and similar institutions.
The capacity of the castle has 110 beds and 14 castle rooms, which are located on two floors together with toilets and showers. The modernly equipped kitchen meets the necessary catering standards, carefully prepared meals are served in the dining room, which accommodates 60 people. The castle accepts only organized groups. Accommodation reservation is mandatory for all guests. For groups of 20 people or more, reservations are possible no later than 5 working days before the desired date. You will find more information at their website.
Because the castle is irresistibly reminiscent of Hogwarts, it's no surprise that the School of Magic and Harry Potter-themed workshops have been held here for several years.
