The cheapest electric car?! The time has come when an electric car is available for less than 20,000 euros. Meet the Leapmotor T03, the Chinese urban toddler that may change the European electric car market forever.
The magic border has fallen! Yes, you read that right – there is now an electric car available in Europe that costs less than €20,000 before subsidy. In a world where electric vehicle prices are skyrocketing, the Leapmotor T03 is like a breath of fresh air. That's it the cheapest electric car. Not only does it cost just €18,900, but it promises to change the dynamics of the European electric car market. With it, Stellantis, in collaboration with the Chinese manufacturer Leapmotor, targets European drivers who want an affordable and environmentally friendly alternative. We already wrote about it in October 2022, when we announced a price of around 18,000 euros.
What is the Leapmotor T03?
Leapmotor T03 it's not just another city car. Although it is small - measuring only 3.62 meters in length - it offers room for four passengers and four doors. But that's not all! Under the hood hides an engine with a power of 70 kW (95 hp), which means quite solid performance for a city kid. It is capable of reaching a maximum speed of around 120 km/h, which will not satisfy highway racing fans, but is more than sufficient for city streets and daily migrations.
One of the main advantages of the T03 is its battery with a capacity of 37.3 kWh, which allows a range of up to 265 kilometers on a single charge. What is even more impressive - with moderate city driving, this figure can grow to an incredible 395 kilometers! If you've ever been waiting for an excuse that an electric car can't handle long drives, the Leapmotor T03 successfully dispels that myth. the only problem will be charging the car really fast, but since it has a relatively small battery, that won't be a challenge either.
Versatility and comfort
The Leapmotor T03, although a city toddler, does not skimp on comfort. Inside, two screens await you – an 8-inch one for driver information and a 10.1-inch screen for infotainment. The system supports connectivity with smartphones, which is almost standard today. They are also included in the equipment reversing camera, automatic air conditioning and panoramic roof, which puts the vehicle above many more expensive rivals.
And that's not all! The T03 has it too an advanced set of assistance systems, including level 2 autonomous driving, which means that driving on city streets and highways will be much easier and less stressful. Who says an affordable car has to be skimpy on tech features?
Production in Europe
Chinese cars are often subject to quality concerns, but here the Leapmotor T03 boasts an important distinction. This little electric gem is actually produced in Europe, more precisely in a factory Stellantis in Poland, where some well-known models such as the Fiat 600, Jeep Avenger and Alfa Romeo Junior are assembled. Historically, the iconic Fiat 126P, known in our country as the "flea", also comes from the same factory. Could you say that the Leapmotor T03 is a modern, electric version of the flea? Maybe. But with significantly more technology and ecological awareness.
How does it compare to others?
With a starting price of 18,900 euros, it is Leapmotor T03 more affordable than many other city electric cars. For comparison - Dacia Spring, which is known for its simplicity and modest equipment, costs around 22,900 euros. Another competitor, the Dongfeng Box, which is bigger but has comparable capabilities, is available for 24,900 euros.
Despite the good price Leapmotor T03 it offers a surprising amount of technology and comfort, which puts it at the very top of affordable electric vehicles in Europe. In addition, the promised European sales and service network, which will include 350 sales salons by the end of the year, indicates that Stellantis is serious about entering the market.
Final thought - this is the cheapest electric car - one that we can already recommend!
The Leapmotor T03 is not just another Chinese car. It is a symbol of the changes coming to the European electric vehicle market. With an affordable price, surprising technical specifications and comfortable equipment, we can expect this city kid to win the hearts of European drivers.
If you've been hesitant to buy an electric car, the Leapmotor T03 could be the one to convince you. For less than 20,000 euros, you get not only a vehicle that will reliably get you from point A to point B, but also technology that is usually found in much more expensive cars. European roads have never looked so promising for the future of electric vehicles.
Are you ready for a change? The Leapmotor T03 certainly is.
