Michael Lang, one of the organizers of the original Woodstock, will prepare a three-day festival event in 2019 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the cult festival, which entertained a crowd of more than 400,000 in the US in 1969. It's confirmed: Woodstock 2019 will happen!
You are probably familiar with the original festival Woodstock, which is between August 15 and 18 1969 held near the hamlet of White Lake in Bethel, USA. The music festival is still regarded as one of the defining moments in the history of popular music and the best music event in all of history. At the time, famous musical artists performed at the festival, including Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, bands The Who and Jefferson Airplane. Over the years, attempts have been made to revive the spirit of this cult at the festival site, but most likely the most monumental will be 50th anniversary of the Woodstock festival, which will take place in 2019.
Michael Lang, one of the co-creators of the festival today and also in the 1960s, confirmed that the new festival will include "hip hop, rock and pop and some bands from the original festival". Rolling Stone speculates that the list of performers could also include tributes of some original performances, in addition to, of course, 'new' bands, who will perform at Woodstock 2019.
Previous jubilee festivals were held in 1994 and 1999, and at that time quite a few bands from the original festival performed, including the now sadly deceased Joe Cocker.
Lang also spoke, among other things about his regrets in compiling the list of performers in 1999, which featured a host of nu-metal acts, and the festival ended with a riot of visitors angry at the commercialization of the festival. He revealed that he "shouldn't leave band bookings to others", and apparently the 74-year-old will have quite a bit more work this time around. “Woodstock '99 was a musical experiment with no social meaning. This time we are returning to our roots and original purpose," adds Lang.
The 50th anniversary of the music festival will take place at Watkins Glen, New York from August 16-18. Ticket sales begin in February, when they are expected to be the first performers are also announced.
