The Cupra brand presents itself: with two concepts and the powerful Leon

Cupra Ateca

In January, Seat announced the news that Cupra is now an independent brand under their umbrella. Cupra thus became an independent sports brand for sports car enthusiasts, which will concentrate on sports versions of existing Seat cars. New models under the Cupra label were presented at a special event in Barcelona.

The presentation touched on a powerful SUV Seat Athens, conceptual Cupra Ibiza, which will oppose the Volkswagen Polo GTI, the sporty one Leona R ST and completely competitive Cupro TCR.

Cupra Ateca

At Cupra, they say that the Cupra Ateca is a unique and such a sporty SUV in the segment, and with all the modifications and finishing touches, it is already very close to the top class. It has the most powerful crossover in the history of the Seat brand 2-liter engine with 300 horsepower and is associated with newly developed 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. The download was made to all four wheels, where a system is used that adapts to the surface and driving conditions. The system monitors the speed of the car, the speed of each wheel, the position of the steering wheel and the driving style, and then, based on this data, the system automatically allocates power to the wheel that needs it. In this way, maximum utilization of the torque is achieved and traction with the road is optimized. Cupra Ateca needs it from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 245 km/h. A choice of driving profiles will be available, among which, of course, there will be no button for the so-called Cupra driving mode. This makes the engine react faster, improves the sound of the engine and strengthens the suspension.

Cupra TCR

It's a Cupra TCR the first Cupra racing car, that they ever made. It is actually a competitive Seat Leon, which has been rebranded and will be competed in TCR competitions in the 2018 season.

Cupra Ibiza Concept

There is no exact information about the Cupra Ibiza concept, but we can assume that it will be powered by it the same engine that powers the Volkswagen Polo GTI. In all likelihood, it will 2-liter TSI engine with 200 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. It will have a drive on the front wheel pair, through 6-speed automatic transmission with double clutch. Considering that the VW Polo GTI will also get a manual 6-speed gearbox, we can expect something like this for the Cupra Ibiza as well. On the design side, it has a concept a more aggressive sporty look. At the rear, it has a noticeable spoiler and dual tailpipes. There is a lot about the car bronze color, which highlights the new logos and color scheme of the Cupra brand. The interior is carried over from the standard Ibiza, with the difference that in the sporty Cupra we have carbon fiber trim, and alcantara on the steering wheel and seats.

Seat Leon Cupra R ST

While the Ibiza and Arona in the Cupra version are still concepts and will have to wait a little longer for them, the most powerful of Seat's station wagons will be presented in Geneva Leon Cupra R ST. This time under the Seat brand, and in all likelihood in the future already under the Cupra brand. The Leon Cupra R wagon will have 300 horsepower, four-wheel drive and a large trunk for everything your sporty family needs. Like all Cupras, the Leon will have bronze accents outside and inside the car, aerodynamic accessories from carbon fiber, sports brakes and a seductive sound from the exhaust pipe. There is also talk of a 335-horsepower Cupra, but all of this is unfortunately just a rumor for now.
