After five years of announcements and concepts, the Polestar 5 is finally here. The Swedish brand's latest electric grand tourer, unveiled at the IAA Mobility show in Munich, is the realization of the vision of the 2020 Precept concept. It's a powerful four-door GT that takes aim at the Porsche Taycan and Lucid Air, but due to Chinese production (at least for now), we won't see it in the US.
Polestar 5 is the brand's first model on its own platform – Polestar Performance Architecture, made of hot-forged aluminum. The result is rigidity that surpasses many supercars, and low weight for better dynamics. Former Lotus and McLaren engineers participated in the development, which is noticeable when driving: this is not just an electric sedan, but a true grand tourer.
It is integrated under the vehicle 112.0 kWh (106.0 kWh usable) lithium-ion NMC battery, the first in Polestar's history with 800-volt architecture, which allows charging up to 350 kWThis means you'll go from 10 to 80 percent charge in about 22 minutes.
Polestar lists the range of its new grand tourer according to the European WLTP standard, which is always slightly more generous than the American EPA. Polestar 5 Dual Motor can do up to 670 kilometers with a single charge, while more powerful Polestar 5 Performance offers up to 565 kilometersBoth figures are based on official measurements, and Polestar presents them as proof that their grand tourer can compete with the best electric rivals – while maintaining the practicality for long journeys without constantly searching for charging stations.
Two versions: Dual Motor and Performance – Polestar 5
- Dual Motor: 550 kW (748 HP), 812 Nm (559 lb-ft), acceleration 0–100 km/h 3.8 seconds, maximum speed 250 km/h (155 mph).
- Performance: 650 kW (884 hp), 1,015 Nm (749 lb-ft), acceleration 0–100 km/h 3.1 seconds, also limited to 250 km/h (155 mph).
Both versions of the Polestar 5 use their own rear motor in combination with a smaller front one. The performance gets even more MagneRide active suspension, the same as in Ferraris and Corvettes, for more precision and comfort. The brakes are Brembo with four-piston calipers and two-piece discs.
Interior: Scandinavian minimalism
The cabin remains true to the Polestar slogan of “less is more.” The central element is 14.5-inch portrait display with Google infotainment, and in front of the driver is 9-inch screen and projection screen on the windshield. Rear window? None. Instead, a camera that improves aerodynamics and allows for a drag coefficient 0,24.
The seats are a collaboration with Recaro and offer ventilation, heating and massage. Interior materials include natural flax fibers, recycled PET and Econyl, and the panoramic glass roof measures over 2 meters.
Prices and exclusivity
In Europe it will be Dual Motor stood from 119.900 €, Performance but from 142.900 €If the Polestar 5 were to come to the US, its price could exceed $100,000 due to a 100% tariff. 200.000 $, which puts it alongside Ferrari and Bentley – quite a distance from mass ambitions.
Conclusion: Polestar has grown up
Polestar 5 is everything the brand has long promised: a capable, stylish, and sustainable grand tourer that combines minimalist Swedish aesthetics with British engineering acumen. While Americans won’t be driving it just yet, it has become a serious alternative to the Porsche Taycan and Lucid Air in Europe and elsewhere. Polestar has entered the big leagues—and with a car that will leave many speechless.
