In autumn, the Corwin company in Ljubljana will start construction of Vilharia, the greenest building in Slovenia, which is planned according to the highest standards of energy and environmentally sustainable construction. Next to the main train and bus station in Ljubljana, it will grow as the first office building in Slovenia that meets the highest LEED Platinum certification standard. Only 1 % of the world's most sustainable buildings receive it.
Corwin, a developer of sustainable construction and urbanism, is starting construction of the first Slovenian green office building, Vilharia, in autumn, after the Kvartet residential project in Šiška, which is distinguished by the recently obtained LEED Platinum pre-certificate. It is an internationally recognized certification system for sustainable quality buildings with high energy efficiency, economy and care for the health and well-being of users. Only 1 % of the most sustainable buildings in the world reach the highest Platinum standard, among them Vilharia will be the first in Slovenia. The project documentation for obtaining a building permit was submitted in December 2021. According to the plans, construction could begin already this autumn.
With its sustainable architecture, Ljubljana attracts companies that think about the future
Michal Maco, director of Corwin in Slovenia, pointed out that Ljubljana, the green capital of Europe, also deserves the first green office building in Slovenia: "Concrete sustainability measures and a smaller environmental footprint are important factors in the sustainability strategies of 21st century companies. Sustainability factors that are important in commercial buildings are efficient use of energy, less water consumption, less carbon footprint, and the health and well-being of employees. These are the spaces in which we spend most of our working day. With this kind of sustainable urban vision, Ljubljana offers itself as a home to many companies and organizations that already and will continue to follow ESG guidelines. With the goal of sustainable business, they are looking for healthy, creative and innovative business environments in which they will be able to realize a sustainable transformation."
Revitalization of a degraded area for more than a decade
The Vilharia office building is a complex of modern, green offices that will cover an area of 40,000 square meters. It will be built in accordance with sustainable design, construction and maintenance. It will be used to revitalize an area in the center of Ljubljana that has been degraded for more than a decade between Vilharjevo cesta and the railway line, in a location between Situla and the future Emonica. The project was designed for Corwin by the Danish architectural firm Schmidt Hammer Lassen (SHL), which is already under some of the world's cultural landmarks between Copenhagen and Shanghai. Even in the construction of Vilharia, Corwin will use the most modern technologies, with which they achieve high standards of sustainable buildings. For comparison: in Corwin's green office building Einpark in Slovakia, which is the first in the country to be certified with the LEED Platinum certificate, they annually save more than one million kilograms of CO₂ emissions, more than 2 million liters of drinking water and reduce 90 % of biodegradable waste.
