What do you get when you combine Chinese technical ingenuity, nearly 1,300 horsepower, and a spaceship-like interior? Meet the BYD Yangwang U7 – an electric sedan that doesn't pretend to be a budget car from China.
When someone mentions BYD brand, most people first think of affordable city electric cars like the iconic Seagull for $10,000/euro in the Chinese market. But times change – and apparently BYD is also getting bored with economy class. Enter the world of Yangwang, the ultra-premium sub-brand that BYD measures straight into the nose Ferrari, Mercedes and PorscheThe newest member of the elite group? BYD Yangwang U77 – a sedan that sounds like technological sci-fi but drives like a rocket.
U7 is the third model Yangwang family – behind the U8 SUV and the U9 supercar. But this time it's a sedan. Elegant, powerful and brutally fast.
BYD Yangwang U7 specs reveal the beast beneath the shiny surface
The BYD Yangwang U7 is an electric sedan with dimensions that cannot be ignored: 5,265 mm long, 1,998 mm wide and 1,517 mm high. With these dimensions, it even surpasses the Porsche Panamera and is already on the on paper, it ranks among the limousine giants.
But the real shock comes under the hood – or rather, in each of the four wheels. Each wheel has its own electric motor, and together they produce an incredible 1,287 horsepower (960 kW) and 1,680 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds (0–62 mph) puts the U7 alongside supercars that cost twice as much.
The maximum speed has not yet been officially confirmed, but given the power and technology, it will not be far below 300 km/h (186 mph).
BYD's own electric vehicle is responsible for powering this beast. Blade battery with a capacity of 135.5 kWh, which provides a range of up to 720 kilometers (447 miles) on the Chinese CLTC cycle. If that might not be enough for your daily commute, rest assured that the battery is powered by 500 kW DC charging can charge from 30 % to 80 % in less than 20 minutes.
The future in suspension: DiSus-Z
One of the biggest technological breakthroughs is the DiSus-Z active suspension system. Instead of traditional shock absorbers, it uses linear actuators – a technology that resembles a speaker, except that each actuator is more powerful than a Seagull engine. This system allows the U7 to remain stable even if a tire fails, control body roll and virtually “float” above the road.
Unlike the U9 model, which uses the hydraulic DiSus-X, the DiSus-Z is cheaper, more responsive and – most importantly – implemented for the first time in a production vehicle. A serious technological breakthrough.
Artificial intelligence with a “God’s eye”
The BYD Yangwang U7 is equipped with the “God's Eye A” autonomous driving system, which includes 3 lidar sensors, 5 radars, 13 HD cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors. It offers level 2 autonomous driving with the ability to enable features such as Navigate on Autopilot (NOA).
This means that it can drive independently on the highway, change lanes and merge into traffic – under the watchful eye of the driver, of course.
A cabin that would impress even Elon Musk
The U7's interior is downright futuristic. BYD calls it the "Star Ring Cockpit" and includes a 12.8-inch curved center display, a 23-inch digital instrument cluster, and additional 6-inch screens for passengers.
The DeepSeek AI digital assistant makes sure you're never bored – from personalized settings to voice control and restaurant recommendations (in case you're not sure where to take your next date).
Price? You'll be shocked at how affordable it is
Although initial rumors suggested that the price would be around 1 million yuan, BYD decided to make a real “power move”:
- Five-seat version: from 628,000 yuan (approximately 87,700 USD / 80,500 EUR)
- Four-seat ultra-luxury version: from 708,000 yuan (approximately 94,300 USD / 86,500 EUR)
A PHEV (plug-in hybrid) version will also be available, although details about it have not been revealed yet.
Conclusion: a revolution from Chinese cuisine
The BYD Yangwang U7 isn't just another electric car from China. It's a clear statement. A car that can keep up with the fastest supercars, offers technology that's still in development in many places, and packs it all into a price that feels like the upper middle class, not the ultra-luxury segment.
Who would have thought it would BYD – brand, known for its "budget" EVs - the first to redefine the ultra-luxury class with a mass-accessible price?
If the U7 performs well outside of China (which is very likely), then Mercedes, BMW, and even Porsche can get ready – because BYD is no longer just a cheap alternative. It has become a threat, and at the peak of its technological power.
If you're looking for a car that combines brute power, space technology, the comfort of a presidential limousine, and a price that won't break the bank – then you've just found it. The Yangwang U7.
