The most efficient hybrids on Slovenian roads

Toyota Prius

This time we will only deal with cars that have an exclusively hybrid drive and we will not count plug-in hybrids among them. So we will talk about cars that alternate between an electric motor and an internal combustion engine, or electric and 'fossil' energy.

Cars with a hybrid drive has components gasoline driven and electric car. An internal combustion engine, an electric motor and a battery are integral parts of every hybrid. Hybrid technology helps to reduced consumes fuel, mainly through the use of electricity, at times when the internal combustion engine is otherwise the most wasteful. The electric motor works when starting, in traffic jams, when we move slowly and for short distances, and when it is necessary to accelerate suddenly.

An overview of the current offer on Slovenian soil is complicated, as they constantly intertwine with each other hybrids and plug-in hybrids. We also have some cars that already offered a hybrid form of drive in the previous generation, but they no longer offer them with the new generation, or they are still in arrival. Thus, we will mention only a few cars whose price lists and consumption data are currently the most current.

1. Toyota

Toyota was one of the first to bring hybrid technology to the masses. There is almost no one among us who has not heard of a model with the name Prius. At the moment, the Toyota Prius is still Toyota's best hybrid that has a declared consumption 3 l/100 km. It is a sedan that can be a family car, as it has enough space and offers a solidly large luggage compartment. The following are smaller models: Auris with consumption 3.5 l/100 km and Yaris with consumption 3.6 l/100 km. Toyota crossover with hybrid drive CHR spend 3.8 l/100 km, while a true Toyota SUV RAV4 spend 5 l/100 km.

2. Lexus

That Lexus on the list, it is not surprising, since it nevertheless resides with Toyota under the same roof. The range of cars at Lexus is even more extensive, as it practically covers all the models in their range. The entry car in the world of hybrid Lexus presents Lexus CT 200h with a cropped rear, which also has the lowest fuel consumption among all Lexuses. This one is worth it 3.6 l/100 km. A slightly larger sedan version IS 300h has consumption 4.2 l/100 km. A smaller SUV in the Lexus range, NX 300h has consumption 5 l/100 km, a larger SUV, RX 450h well 5.3 l/100 km. Model GS 300h represents a limousine that consumes 4.5 l/100 km. An even more advanced sedan LS 500h spend 7 l/100 km, sports coupe RC 300h and LC 500h well 4,7 respectively 6.4 l/100 km. For more sporty and SUV models, consumption is understandably lower, but it should also be taken into account that Lexus is only a premium brand.

3. Ford Mondeo

Mercedes-Benz E-Class is an extremely popular car here, especially as a limousine for business purposes, while the station wagon version is more popular with families. The Hybrid E is powered by a 2-liter gasoline engine with 211 horsepower and an electric motor with 88 horsepower. The combined consumption of the limousine is between 2,1 and 2.5 l/100 km.

5. Hyundai Ioniq hybrid

Hyundai Ioniq is perhaps the freshest and most interesting of all the hybrids mentioned. The Ioniq is available in three drive versions: electric, hybrid or as plug-in hybrid. The Ioniq is also very likeable, and with a huge amount of accessories and safety systems, it will easily convince any buyer. The hybrid Ioniq is powered by a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with 105 horsepower and electric motor with 43.5 horsepower. Consumption is between 3,4 and 3.9 l/100 km.

As you can see, classic hybrids are just not as numerous as you might think. Plug-in hybrids are coming to the fore much more, which can be even more economical in cities, as they enable longer drive, exclusively using electricity. There are also fully electric cars where we can completely ignore liters per kilometer and instead talk about kilowatt hours per 100 kilometers. Hybrid technology cannot be written off just yet, as the sales figures prove. Slovenians are less and less afraid of this technology, and as a result the sale of cars with a hybrid drive is increasing.
