Dacia is preparing a surprise for the business world: the new Dacia Grand Kombi aims to challenge the Passat and Superb with spaciousness, practicality and a legendary low price. Is this the new king of company cars?

Who would have thought that Dacia – this former champion among “low-cost” cars – would one day compete with business legends like VW Passat and Škoda Superb? But here we are. And if you thought the Bigster with its 4.57 meters was already a big step forward, then get ready for even more: Dacia is preparing a real Mid-range station wagon with a length of about 4.90 meters, intended primarily for business users.

It sounds like another April Fool's joke, but Dacia is clearly serious. The 2021 "Renaulution" strategy was not just a marketing ploy - it was a plan for Dacia to take on the higher segments of the market. After the Bigster comes Dacia Grand Combi – practical, spacious and, above all, accessible.

Technical basis: CMF-B platform with high flexibility

Dacia will develop the new Grand Kombi on an expanded basis CMF-B platforms – the same as the Bigster. This allows for a variety of lengths and body styles, including sedans, SUVs and vans. The Grand Kombi is expected to measure around 4.90 meters, which is already on par with the Passat Variant (4.92 m) and the Škoda Superb Combi (4.90 m).

The engine range will most likely be familiar from the Dacia Jogger and the upcoming Bigster:

  • TCe 140 – 1.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with power of around 103 kW (140 hp)
  • Hybrid 155 – self-charging hybrid with a combination of a 1.6-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor with power 114 kW (155 hp)

There will be no diesel on offer, at least not initially. But as Dacia says, the door is left open for plug-in hybrid versions, as the platform allows it.

Business class in Romanian: spaciousness, usability and a coffee pot

Exterior? We can probably imagine something in the style of the Bigster, only more elongated. The interior will be a mix of robustness, usability and functionality without unnecessary kitsch. As Dacia engineers say: “less is more”In some ways, this car is very reminiscent of the Subaru Outlender.

It will be in the foreground YouClip system, known from the new Duster, with which the driver and passenger can customize the cabin to their liking – from a phone holder to a holder for… well, coffee. Yes, the “business edition” will be equipped with coffee holder and an adjustable passenger seat.

Frustration-free infotainment

Dacia will not follow the trend of large screens and menus that can get even the most patient driver lost. Instead, it will simple, intuitive user environment, with the essential features you actually need while driving. No lag, no clicking – pure zen.

Flirting with a limousine and history

Interestingly, according to Motor1.com, Dacia is reportedly preparing a Grand Kombi in addition to the sedan version with classic rear – mainly at the initiative of the Romanian government, which wants more of the domestic auto industry in public sector services.

And although this seems like a completely new direction today, Dacia has its roots here: as early as 1979, they offered Dacia 2000, a prestigious sedan based on the Renault 20, intended for the political elite, including Nicolae Ceaușescu.

Conclusion: It is Dacia Grand Kombi a serious alternative?

While there is a possibility that at least part of the story is April Fool's Day in action, the idea itself is completely logical. The middle class market is emptying – The Ford Mondeo and Opel Insignia are already dead, and the Passat and Superb are being priced to the point of absurdity. So there is room for a new star – and Dacia, with its low production costs and minimalist philosophy, is able to fill this void perfectly.

If the Grand Kombi really offers what they promise – that is:

  • Passat size,
  • engines with consumption below 6 l/100 km,
  • hybrid technology without excessive surcharge,
  • a price that starts well below 30,000 euros,

...then we can only say one thing: Business world, watch out. Dacia is coming.

And while not everything is necessarily true today, one thing is certain: if the Grand Kombi does indeed arrive at the end of 2025, it will in any case be one of the most interesting models in its class – not because of technology, but because of its intelligence. And that is a rarity these days.
