New DJI Osmo Mobile 7P: A smart phone stabilizer that even Hollywood directors would envy

Multifunction module, telescopic arm, and auto-tracking – is this the best gimbal for phones yet?

DJI, the king of drones and stabilizers, has introduced the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P – a smart gimbal for phones that has enough tricks up its sleeve to make even Houdini wonder. For 149 $ (about €163), you get a stabilizer with a built-in tripod, an extendable telescopic arm, standalone tracking without an app, and even a magnetic adapter for quick phone mounting. But the question remains: is it enough to replace the already excellent Osmo Pocket 3?

DJI Osmo Mobile The 7P doesn't need DJI's Mimo app for auto-tracking - just place it on a table, add a new Multifunction module and start recording with a wave of your hand. The module has a built-in motion-sensing camera, which means the gimbal will follow you no matter what app you're using. This is a big advantage over previous models, where you had to use DJI's app, which didn't always support all the features of the latest phones.

The multifunction module has another interesting feature: a built-in LED lighting with adjustable color temperature, which comes in handy when shooting in low light conditions. It is also compatible with DJI Mic Mini wireless microphones, meaning you can record professional audio without the hassle of cables.

New features: telescopic arm, magnetic adapter and longer battery life

DJI Osmo Mobile 7P is the first DJI phone stabilizer to have a built-in telescopic arm, which can be extended by an additional 20 cm. This allows for better angle shots and replaces classic selfie sticks. In addition, the new model has a built-in stand, which means you don't need additional tripods for static shots.

DJI also introduced new magnetic adapter, which allows you to quickly mount your phone on the gimbal without the need to stretch the classic clip. But beware – this adapter is not compatible with the Multifunction Module, which means you will have to choose which function you want to use more.

The battery is now larger (12.06 Wh) and lasts up to 10 hours, but when using the Multifunction Module, the battery life is halved to 5 hours (or even 4 hours if you also use the built-in light). This is still an improvement over the previous model, the Osmo Mobile 6, which had a 7.74 Wh battery and 6.5 hours of autonomy.

What about the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P (without the P – like Pro)?

In addition to the Pro version, DJI has introduced a cheaper version, simply called Osmo Mobile 7, which costs 89 $ (about €85). This model is available in white and also has a built-in stand, but does not have a telescopic arm, a Multifunction Module, and a side button for adjusting the exposure or zoom.

If a basic stabilizer is enough for you for filming, the Osmo Mobile 7 will probably be a good choice, but if you want all the latest features, it's worth investing in the Pro version.

Is it worth buying?

If you already have Osmo Pocket 3, then DJI Osmo Mobile 7P probably not for you – Pocket 3 offers better image quality because it uses 1-inch sensor, which smartphones can't yet achieve. But if you're primarily shooting with your phone and want the most advanced stabilizer, then Osmo Mobile 7 Pro the best choice on the market.

Maybe I should DJI had to think about Osmo Pocket 4, which would combine all these new features – a telescopic arm, a built-in tripod and gesture control. Until then, the Osmo Mobile 7 Pro will be a great choice for anyone looking for professional video stabilization on their phone without compromise.

Where can you buy it?

Both versions of the Osmo Mobile 7 are already available on the official DJI website, at major online retailers, and soon at local electronics retailers. Or via this link!
