Kia is not letting up on its electric offensive – and is now looking even lower in price and size. The Kia EV2 concept shows what a production model we can expect in 2026 will look like. A cross between a compact city car and a mini crossover, the EV2 aims to conquer European streets. Could it become the new electric blockbuster?
The Kia EV2 is proof that Kia is experimenting with form. It looks like a cross between a rugged city car and a small SUV, with tall plastic trim and short overhangs. Up front, there's a pair of "claw-like" LED headlights, and at the back, vertical lights are pushed all the way to the edge of the body.
Since it's a concept, Kia has made some bold moves - the B-pillars are gone, the doors are hinged and open in opposite directions. While all of this looks futuristic, the production version will almost certainly be more traditional, with classic handles and regular doors.
Minimalist interior with interesting tricks
The interior of Kia's smallest electric crossover is minimalist. The dual digital display has become a standard feature for the brand, and the single-spoke steering wheel allows for an unobstructed view of the instrument panel. Kia and Hyundai are among the few manufacturers that still resist full digitalization and retain at least some physical buttons - and we will probably see this in the production version as well.
But the most interesting trick? The rear seats can be folded up, while the front ones slide back on rails – ideal for relaxing while charging the battery. As the icing on the cake, there are removable triangular speakers that can be used as portable Bluetooth speakers, sliding luggage compartments and a panoramic glass roof that opens the cabin to the sky.
Technical secrets have not yet been revealed
Kia is still tight-lipped about the specs, but logic suggests the EV2 will be smaller than the EV3, which measures 4,300mm long, 1,850mm wide and 1,560mm high, with a 2,680mm wheelbase. If the Kia EV2 is indeed a B-segment model, as Kia claims, we can expect compact dimensions and an affordable electric drivetrain.
Battery pack? It's possible that the Kia EV2 will be available with two battery sizes, similar to the larger models. Capacities are around 40 kWh for the basic versions and perhaps even more than 50 kWh for those who want more range. The possibility of fast charging is almost guaranteed, but the question is whether it will reach a voltage of 800 V, like the brand's larger models.
Kia EV2 – the electric successor to the Kia Picanto?
The most interesting finding is in the name. If there is an EV2, does that mean Kia is preparing an even smaller EV1 as an electric successor to the popular Picanto? If the EV2 is a B-segment, the EV1 would fill the gap in the A-segment, where electric city cars are becoming increasingly popular.
For now, one thing is clear – Kia is showing off its big plans for affordable electric cars with this concept. If the EV2 does indeed come to market at a reasonable price, it could become one of the most interesting small electric cars in Europe. Is a new electric hit on the horizon? Very likely.
