Remember when Tesla promised an affordable electric car, but then everything went wrong? Well, the new Tesla Model Q – that's what the new compact EV is said to be called – is back in the game! Despite the reversal, when Elon Musk called the affordable model "nonsense", Tesla is still reportedly preparing a new electric car that will cost around 30,000 euros – which is more than 10,000 euros less than the current cheapest models. This is reported by sources close to investors.

A new one Tesla The Model Q is coming this year, as Tesla has been promising for years an affordable electric car that will compete with conventional gasoline models. Then came the announcement of the Cybercab robo-taxi – a car without a steering wheel and pedals – which caused considerable confusion among the brand's followers. Musk then declared that a conventional car worth $25,000 is pointless in a world of autonomous driving.

But despite all the doubts and speculation, it now seems that new Tesla Model Q has actually arrived. Fresh rumors from Chinese sources claim that Tesla discussed this model at a meeting with Deutsche Bank, which could hit the market as early as the first half of 2025.

The Model Q will be a small SUV

Everything indicates that the new Tesla Model S It will not be a classic hatchback, but will fall into the small electric SUV segment (B segment). This means that it will be approximately 4.20 meters long, which puts it alongside models such as Volkswagen ID.2, Peugeot e-2008 and Renault Megane E-Tech.

Tesla has repeatedly proven its mastery of aerodynamics, so we can expect an extremely low drag coefficient. The design features are said to be based on Cybercab, but adapted to everyday use – we expect less radical lines, but still a futuristic design.

The rear will be more hatchback-like than sedan-like, which will contribute to greater practicality. The trunk will be deep and spacious, with a capacity of around 470 liters, which will be made possible primarily by a shorter front overhang and a passenger cabin moved further forward compared to existing Tesla models.

A price that could change the cards

In a world where new electric cars are rapidly crossing the line 40,000 euros, Model Q targets a price of around 30,000 eurosThis could significantly shake up the power ratios in the compact EV segment, as it would be more affordable than most competitors.

We almost certainly know that it will be a mix between a classic hatch and a mini SUV. We also know that the front end will be shorter than usual. The passenger cabin will be moved further forward. It will be very reminiscent of the CyberCab and CyberTruck.

What does Model Q bring?

Although there are no official technical details yet, it is rumored that the Model Q will be based on the Cybercab platform. This is a revolutionary manufacturing process in which the car is assembled modularly - individual parts are manufactured separately and then assembled into a whole. Such an approach could significantly reduce production time and reduce manufacturing costs.

Reach? The forecasts are optimistic – around 300 miles (about 480 km), which would put the Model Q alongside current electric competitors such as Renault Megane E-Tech, Volkswagen ID.3 and BYD Dolphin.

Battery should have a capacity of around 50 kWh, which will provide a good balance between range and cost-effectiveness. The electric motor will probably develop around 200 horsepower (147 kW), which will provide sufficient capacity for urban and intercity driving.

Interestingly, Tesla may not use traditional wiring for the Model Q. Instead, many features, such as lights and accessories, are expected to work via wireless communication, similar to the Cybertruck. This would reduce the amount of wiring, weight, and manufacturing costs.

Autonomous driving and a new way of using it

If Tesla is still pursuing an autonomous future, then we can expect the Model Q to enable fully automatic driving, similar to Cybercab. The car could be integrated into Tesla Robotaxi network, meaning that owners could “lend” it to other users and thus recoup part of the costs.

Will the Model Q save the EV revolution?

We've heard promises of cheap electric cars in the past that have never materialized. But Tesla has the experience, capital, and technology to finally deliver on that promise.

If it will Model Q really achieved price around 30,000 euros, while offering autonomous driving, good range and innovative production solutions, this could mean turning point for the entire electric vehicle industry.

But – Tesla is Tesla. As we’ve learned many times before, expect the unexpected. We’ll see if the Model Q is as affordable as the rumors suggest. Until then, there’s only one question: Will Musk fulfill his promise this time? When can we expect official information? Experts say that as early as May 2025. Until then, let your imagination run wild.
