The Volvo EX60 is the promise of a sleek electric SUV that is set to replace the popular XC60. Let's take a look at everything we already know about it - The New Volvo EX60!

New ones Volvo The EX60 is the promise of a sleek electric SUV that is set to replace the popular XC60. With this model, the Swedish brand fills the gap between the smallest EX30 and the larger EX90, while also taking direct aim at the crown – dominance. Tesla Model YBelow we reveal all hottest rumors, official forecasts and thoughtful analyses that we are still waiting for this (and next) year.

A little drama: 'easter egg' and first hints – the new Volvo EX60

In March 2025, Volvo “accidentally” showed a camouflaged clay prototype of the new Volvo EX60 during an online presentation of the ES90 sedan. Although it was only covered with a thick blanket, the visible vertical LED lights on the D-pillars have already sparked online conspiracies: is this just confetti or actually the announcement of a major electric palace revolution? The fact is that Volvo likes to tease its audience (and our car forum users) with a slightly Swedish audacity.

Design: “machined from solid” Scandinavian style

Volvo's "carved from a single block" style means minimalist surfaces, hidden door handles and smooth transitions. The rear will be flanked by two vertical LED units connected by a thin light line - without the classic C-shaped lights, which will set the new Volvo EX60 apart from the EX30 and EX90. Up front, we expect a "filled" grille and the recognizable Thor's hammer motif in an updated "8-bit" version. We figure this subtle technological nostalgia will be combined with enough muscle to surprise someone at the traffic lights.

New electric skeleton: SPA3 platform and megacasting

The new Volvo EX60 will be the first true Swedish EV on the architecture SPA3, developed completely “from scratch” for electricity. This is where the real magic begins:

  • Megacasting: rear chassis made from a single aluminum casting—15–20 % lighter and manufactured in 120 s, instead of an hourly assembly of hundreds of parts.
  • Structural battery: the “cell-to-body” method brings greater energy density and strength, as you would say to a Tesla fan: “It's lit!”

These engineering marvels mean not only economy, but also a futuristic play with the center of gravity and aerodynamics.

Power and range: desperately fast… or just overly optimistic?

The new Volvo EX60 promises to 400 kW (536 hp) in the top-of-the-line twin-engine version, acceleration from 0–100 km/h in around 4 seconds and top speed limited to 180 km/h (for safety reasons, of course).

Battery and range –

  • Estimated WLTP range: up to 640 km (400 miles).
  • EPA: Expect 300–350 miles (480–560 km).

Charging

  • 800 V architecture for fast range-binge: 200 km range in ~6 min.
  • Maximum power: 300 kW+, maybe even up to 350–500 kW (if the Chinese competitor doesn't overtake).

Volvo is also adding “Plug & Charge” and NACS support in the US, so you can rush to the Supercharger with your hat on without a guilty conscience (and faulty interfaces).

Digital circus show: infotainment and OTA updates

The EX60 will be designed as a third-generation “software-defined car”:

  • Hardware and VolvoCars.OS ready for digital upgrades from the factory.
  • Large 14-15″ touchscreen with “Superset” Google services, HUD and voice control in multiple languages (including Slovenian!).
  • 5G connectivity and OTA battery updates, autopilot, or simply a new collection of emojis in navigation.

For everyone who can't wait for their car to suggest a weekend in Portorož instead of the weather forecast from Android

Safe as a needle: ADAS and autonomy

Volvo, a pioneer in safety, will equip the EX60 with:

  • Radars, cameras, ultrasound and – surprise – Luminar LiDAR.
  • Advanced ADAS 2.5+ features up to level 3, if permitted by law.
  • Haptic seat belts, driver fatigue detectors, and radar sensors for children (seriously).

Be prepared for the EX60 to pull you safely to the side of the road and call for help if you become unresponsive. Otherwise, stay safe and sound.

Price and competition: Volvo EX60

Expected base price: €55,000–65,000 (60–70 000 $), with top-of-the-line equipment also close to €80 000. Competitors? Tesla Model Y, BMW iX3, Audi Q6 e-tron, Mercedes EQC, and even Polestar 4. Scandinavian minimalism and safety commitment are supposed to separate the EX60 from the “tech circus” of competitors.

Conclusion: Volvo EX60

The Volvo EX60 promises to be the golden mean between elegance, safety and electric excitement. With a modern “machined from solid” design, SPA3 platform with megacasting, structural battery, 800 V charging, LiDAR and software upgrades in the cloud, it truly places itself at the top of the segment. If rumors are true, the EX60 will delight its customers as early as the end of 2025, and the first ones will hit the roads in the second half of 2026. Until then, all we can say to ourselves is: “Stay at the charging stations – Sweden is coming!” Of course, in a guise tailored by the Chinese.
