The popular television series How I Met Your Mother will get its own sequel, or rather a "spin-off" called How I Met Your Father. The series will be directed by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, with How I Met Your Mother producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas also helping to produce. Popular American actress Hilary Duff will play the main role in the series.
The plot will take place in the near future, where Sophie (Duff) told her son the story of how she met his father. The story then catapults us into 2021, where Sophie and her tight-knit group of friends discuss what they want out of life and how to fall in love in an age of dating apps and limitless possibilities. But it's still unknown how the new series will tie into the original How I Met Your Mother series.
"We are very excited to bring How I Met Your Father to Hulu," Aptaker and Berger said. "We can't wait for audiences to meet Sophie and her crew and watch them go on their own and find love in modern-day New York."
This is not the first attempt to create a sequel to the HIMYM series. CBS is years 2013 commissioned the script for How I Met Your Father, starring Greta Gerwig and Meg Ryan as narrator. The project was ultimately not selected.
"How I Met Your Mother remains one of the most innovative and popular comedy series on television." adds Craig Erwich, president of Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment, in closing.
