Legend has it that Socrates asked his male friends, who would be rescued if there was a fire and they can only save one person. Will it be a wife or a child?
All the men answered him: "A baby, of course."
Socrates answered this: "I would save my wife. We will grow old together and she will have children. If I had saved the child, it would have been a tragedy and eternal sorrow, for him and for me. They would always remind each other of this tragedy. The child would lose his mother, maybe he would get a stepmother, but she would never love him as much as his mother did..."
