The Sony Alpha 7 V is here: The camera that made all other models “old” overnight

Faster, smarter and finally no overheating. Hybrid perfection for 2999 euros.

Admit it. You've been waiting for this. We've all been waiting. The moment when Sony finally stops "dosing" technology drop by drop and gives us in the "people's" class a tool that simply works. If you've been blaming your equipment for your blurry photos or your vlog looking like a security camera shot from 2005, I have bad news for you. As of yesterday, December 2, 2025, you've run out of excuses. The Sony Alpha 7 V is here and it's - without exaggeration - a technological show of strength packed into a body you can actually lift without needing a physiotherapist.

Let's start at the heart, where the revolution happened. Sony Alpha 7 V maintains resolution 33 million images pixels (33 MP), which sounds familiar, but don't let the number fool you. This is not the same sensor. This is stacked. Exmor RS™ CMOS sensor.

What does that mean to you who aren't engineers? Speed. Raw, brutal speed. The previous model (the A7 IV) was capable of a leisurely 10 frames per second. The Alpha 7 V? 30 frames per second (30 fps). With full autofocus and auto exposure tracking. This means that in the time it takes you to blink once, this camera can take 10 perfect photos of your dog chasing a Frisbee.

“The combination of the BIONZ XR2 processor and the stacked sensor means this camera is faster than your reaction time. The Pre-Capture feature captures the action up to 1 second before you even press the shutter. It’s cheating. And we love it.”

Artificial intelligence that sees everything

New processor – Sony Alpha 7 V –  BIONZ XR2™ It's not just fast, it's smart. Sony says that subject recognition has been improved by 30 %. In practice, this means that the camera doesn't just look for "eyes." It recognizes people, animals, birds, insects, cars, trains, and planes.

System with 759 focus points, covering 94 % sensors, works like military radar. If you miss focus with this camera, it's your fault. Or you forgot to remove the lens cap. Even in near-total darkness (down to -4.0 EV), the camera will find what you're looking for.

Video: The end of overheating and 4K60 without the “fine print”

Videographers, take a breath. For years, we at Sony (and Canon) have been playing the “when will the camera shut down from the heat” game. Sony Alpha 7 V has apparently solved this problem. Thanks to improved heat dissipation and a more efficient processor, you can record 4K 60p (oversampled from 7K) without time limits.

Official specs say: 90 minutes at 25°C (77°F). Unofficial tests? The camera shoots for hours. And most importantly – 4K 60p is finally available in full format (with Angle of View Priority). No more annoying 1.5x crop that ruins your wide angle.

Dynamic range? 16 stops. That means your footage will retain detail in both the darkest shadows and the brightest sunlight. And the Dynamic Active Mode stabilization is so good, you'll probably leave the gimbal in the trunk.

Ergonomics and battery: The little things that count

Sony finally listened to users about the display. We got a 4-axis multi-angle LCD. You can tilt it, rotate it, turn it forward for vlogging, or hide it. It's the best display in the industry, period.

Another win is connectivity. Two USB-C ports. One for power, one for data transfer. Brilliant. And Wi-Fi 6E ensures that photos are transferred to your phone faster than you can say “Instagram.” And the battery? Officially 630 shots according to the CIPA standard, which in the real world means a full day of work without panic.

New lens: FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS II

Sony also introduced a new kit lens alongside the camera. We usually skip this one, but this one deserves a mention. It's lightweight (ideal for travel), sharp, and supports the camera's brutal 30fps. For around $479, it's a surprisingly competent piece of glass to get you started.

Conclusion: Is it worth 2999 euros?

Sony Alpha 7 V will be available from today for a suggested retail price of 2999 euros. Is that a lot? For a hobby photographer, maybe. But look at the bigger picture.

You get 90 % of the performance of the flagship Alpha 1 II, which costs twice as much. You get a camera that doesn't overheat, that can see in the dark, and that uses AI to correct your mistakes. In a world where technology often promises more than it delivers, the A7 V is boringly reliable. It's a tool that disappears in your hands and lets you create.

If you have an Alpha 7 III, run to the store. If you have an Alpha 7 IV, you finally have a reason to upgrade. But if you just bought the competition… well, there's always Bolha.com.
