Timex reawakens its legendary 1975 Timex Enigma “mystery dial” in two new colorways – deep black and forest green – with an emphasis on the play of light, a retro-futuristic look and charming simplicity.

When it's Timex When Enigma was pulled out of mothballs last year, many a watch lover raised their eyebrows: a watch from the seventies with quasi-floating hands? Yes, please! This year, the American brand is spiceing things up with fresh shades and new straps that resolutely translate the old-fashioned trick of optical illusion into a modern street reality. The Enigma 2025 is nostalgic, but not lagging behind today's trends.

Timex Enigma: The Mystery of the Hands and Historical Inspiration

Original model Timex Enigma from 1975 was created in an era when quartz technology broke the shackles of mechanical limitations and watch design took to the cosmic waters. Timex's Enigma was an experiment: hands that seemed to float on the dial without any grip. And the trick, which was not perfect then, is now, with the help of thoughtful color coordination and a discreet dot on the underside of the crystal, which fools the eye well.

Designer makeover with modern details

The new edition retains the slim 37mm steel case with a combination of brushed and polished surfaces, while the domed acrylic glass further enhances the illusion of light refraction. The classic shape remains unchanged, but new shades – jet black and forest green – bring new energy to the game. In the black version, the light blue dot and luminous hands create a space-like ambiance that even Kubrick would envy. The green version, with its yellow dot and military-colored strap, takes it into more off-road, almost “field watch” waters, with a retro-futuristic soul.

Functionality for every day

It's not all about lipstick – Enigma it also retains its useful features: a quartz movement that reliably does its job, a day and date function at the third o'clock, and even 50-meter water resistance, meaning it will survive a rainy picnic or an unannounced bar spill with you. Compared to last year's steel bracelets, the new range of straps – textile NATO in the watch's colors and even a leather strap for the black version – allows for wide fashion flexibility.

Aesthetic details that count

What makes this year's Enigma truly special is its sophisticated combination of optical illusion and everyday utility. The floating hands are not just a hipster showcase idea – they are a tangible aesthetic detail that elevates the everyday experience of looking at a watch. Enigma is not just an homage to the past, but proof that the past can be reinvented through intelligent design.

Good price, big personality

For a price of 209 US dollars (just under 200 euros) you get a watch that is both a conversation piece and a practical accessory. It's not limited edition, it's not pretentious, but it's just mysterious enough to stand out, and just everyday enough that you'll actually wear it. With this reincarnation, Timex has proven that legends don't have to be locked away in a display case. They can be on your wrist. Every day.

Between competition and cult status

Although the competition in the field of “vintage reissue” models is getting more and more intense – Swatch, Seiko and even Casio are breathing heavily with retro digitals – the Enigma is special enough not to blend in with the average. It may not be aimed at professional collectors, but aims straight at the heart of the aesthetically sensitive individual, who is looking for more than just functionality.

A clock that whispers a story

And that is perhaps the greatest asset of this watch: it is not for everyone, but once you understand it, it becomes a part of your personality. In a time when most watches scream for attention with size, complexity or prestigious branding, the Enigma whispers a story – and those who listen know how to appreciate it.
