What about maintenance costs?

One thing the study didn't take into account was maintenance costs. Every car, no matter how reliable, needs regular oil, brake pads, and tire changes. Fortunately, smaller, lighter cars tend to be cheaper to maintain, which means they're more cost-effective in the long run.

The data backs this up – the Civic, Corolla and Mazda3, which all top the charts, are compacts. While SUVs are hugely popular, it’s clear that if you want the most for your money, they are compact cars still the kings of economy and longevityThese are the most reliable cars of 2025!

Final thought: is less really more?

When we talk about the price-life ratio, it turns out that bigger is not always better. The Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla and Mazda3 hatchback prove that smaller cars offer exceptional value for money, as they not only last longer, but are also cheaper to maintain.

If you're thinking about buying a car and want the optimal balance between price and lifespan, this list is a great place to start. But remember – no matter what you drive, the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and safe in your car.
