Are you wondering which cars are the safest?! Recently, MEPs voted on legislation that will further tighten and raise safety standards in traffic. The rules could apply to all cars sold in the EU and come into effect in three years. And which cars offer the most safety? And you can buy them in 2019?!
The amended legislation contains provisions on additional crash tests and installation of assistance systems, such as automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane keeping assistant and an intelligent speed control system that will vibrate your gas pedal when you exceed the maximum speed limit. There was even talk of recommendations for the so-called to be installed in cars black boxes, which would record pre-crash data. With the help of the boxes, it would then be easier to find the reasons for the occurrence of traffic accidents. According to EU estimates, with these measures in the following 15 years, solved right 25,000 lives.
When reviewing the safest cars, we will use the test results Euro NCAP. Only these are constantly being improved, as safety technology in cars also advances with each new model. In 2016, there was a change in which they started testing cars with their basic equipment and then repeated the tests with models that had built-in additional safety equipment, or higher levels of equipment. For testing, they choose models with such equipment and an engine that represents the best-selling version in the area of wider Europe.
Euro NCAP testing presents collision simulation and theirs influence to the passengers in the car. Through crash and equipment tests, they study the impact on the driver and passenger, on children in the back seats (6 and 10 years old), on pedestrians, other vulnerable road users and the safety equipment that is built into the car. The test covers a collision with an obstacle, half the width of the car, at speed 64 km/h. This is followed by a collision with an obstacle that can be compared to a wall at speed 50 km/h. Then a side impact with another vehicle at speed is simulated 50 km/h. Finally, they need a fourth car, with which they test a side impact into a pole or tree, at speed 32 km/h. In addition to the car itself, other components such as the seat and seat belt are tested in a rear-end crash simulation at speed 16 and 24 km/h. It is also necessary to test the front part, in case of a collision with a pedestrian. At speed 40 km/h they test the hood head impact and the early and lower leg impact. Practical tests also include a test of automatic emergency braking at speed 50 and 70 km/h, a system for recognizing pedestrians and a system or warning for maintaining or unintentionally leaving the driving lane.
We will present to you some of the most current cars that have passed the Euro NCAP test all 5 stars. If the car is not listed, it doesn't mean yet that it is bad or dangerous. In all likelihood, the Euro NCAP tests have not yet been completed, or it narrowly missed the fifth star. We listed the cars in alphabetical order.
