Do you want to know how much different substances you consume during the day? From now on, you will no longer need to read the text printed on food packaging, because the information will be entrusted to you by a gold tracker that you will place on your teeth.
Scientists from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Tufts University have developed mini sensors, which could change the way you eat. Thin sensors with dimensions 2 x 2 mm simply place on the teeth and you will soon find out, how much glucose, salt and alcohol you consumed.
The tracker adapts perfectly to the uneven shape of the tooth. Scientists describe the technology as similar to that used to check highway vignettes. Sensors transmit data wirelessly, namely through radio frequencies.
The sensors are made of three layers. We find in the middle 'bioresponsive' layer, which detects different types of nutrients. They surround her two gold frames in the shape of a square, which together act as a kind of antennae, as they transmit information about the ingredients of our menu.
According to the words dr. Fiorenza Omenetta his group of researchers is limited only by their creativity. The middle layer of the tracer is capable of recognizing many other substances as well.
