The Renault Twingo E-Tech, a futuristic reinterpretation of the classic model from 1992, will be unveiled at the 2024 Paris Motor Show. The retro-inspired electric city car is a prototype that will hit the market in 2026 with a promising price tag of under €20,000. Read more about this nostalgic futuristic masterpiece.

When we think of Renault Twingo, the image of a simple, practical and versatile city car is drawn before our eyes, which has become synonymous with urban routes since its first release in 1992. But the year 2024 brings something completely new: it's at the Paris Motor Show Renault presented the Twingo E-Tech – an electric prototype that combines the nostalgic past with the advanced technology of the future. And if the first generation Twingo brought freshness with vivid colors and a simple design, this new version from 2024 brings an elegant, green glow and an abundance of modern solutions.

Design: round shape at every step

Renault decided to stay true to the Twingo heritage. With its round design, the new Twingo E-Tech is instantly recognizable as part of Renault's heritage, but with a touch of futurism. The most prominent feature are the round headlights with floating LED rings, which give the car a friendly and almost playful expression. The feeling that the Twingo is looking at you and laughing reaches its peak when one of those headlights goes off - as if it's winking at you.

Visitors to the Paris Motor Show were also able to take a closer look at other circular elements, such as the round door handles that light up to help find them in the dark, and the round rear lights that follow the same philosophy as the front ones.

Of course, the large glass skylight, which covers almost the entire roof and creates a feeling of openness and connection with the outside world, should not be ignored.

rvi Twingo impressed in 1992 with its innovative design and monochrome shades that stood out at the time. Now, 32 years later, Renault is reviving this aesthetic, but with a modern twist. The green shade that adorns the new Twingo is not only a nostalgic tribute, but also a symbol of a sustainable future, as the color shines and stands out under the sunlight.

At the rear of the vehicle, Renault maintains the classic black border around the rear window, giving the car a modern look while maintaining continuity with the original model.

Electric: ready to jump into the city car market in 2026

Although Twingo E-Tech remains a prototype at the showroom, Renault promises that the production version will be ready for the market in 2026. With a starting price below 20,000 EUR, this electric city car will be accessible to a wide range of buyers, which is an important step for Renault on the road to electrification. Although technical details such as battery size or range have yet to be confirmed, we expect the Twingo E-Tech to stay true to its urban character – that is, small, nimble and suitable for driving on narrow city streets.

Based on current trends in Renault electric vehicles and development guidelines, we expect the Twingo E-Tech to be equipped with a battery capacity of around 40 kWh, which will give it a range that will be quite enough for city driving and short intercity trips. We also assume that the vehicle will allow fast 22 kW charging at public charging stations, which will be ideal for quickly refreshing the battery during errands around town. (charging in 2 hours) As expected, the highest model in the range will offer even more impressive capabilities - fast direct current (DC) charging with a capacity of 100 kW, which will enable significantly faster charging during longer journeys. As for the powertrain, it seems likely that the Twingo E-Tech will use the same electric motor as the recently launched Renault 5, with the base version offering around 70 kW (95 hp). This combination of battery and motor will provide the reliable and efficient driving characteristics we need in an urban environment, with enough power for dynamic city driving and short trips outside the city. In the city, given the size of the battery, the size of the car and the "good" small consumption of Renault electricians, we expect a range of about 400 kilometers and on the highway about 200.

Bet on old glory: will the twingo be a legend again?!

When the Twingo E-Tech hits the roads in 2026, it will face stiff competition, but Renault has some advantages. First, nostalgia is a powerful force, and Renault is sure to capitalize on it, as it did with the Renauklt 5. Second, the sub-€20,000 price tag will put this city car in an attractive price bracket. If Renault manages to deliver solid battery capacity and range, the Twingo E-Tech could become the most desirable city car of the future.

Renault is with a new one Twingom E-Tech proved that it knows how to preserve its roots, while at the same time stepping into the future with electrification. The Paris Motor Show 2024 was just the beginning of this story, which will continue on the streets of our cities.

Conclusion: The Twingo E-Tech is an interesting and promising step by Renault towards an electric future. With respect for the past and design solutions that draw inspiration from the original Twingo, this prototype promises a lot. If Renault manages to hit the target price and performance we expect from modern electric vehicles, the Twingo E-Tech is sure to become a hit on city streets around the world.

Although production details are still in the speculation stage, there is a good chance that it will be Renault Twingo E-Tech manufactured in Slovenia, specifically in Revoz in Novi Mesto, where Renault has been producing some of its most popular models for many years. As an interesting fact, the author of this article also comes from this country. Thus, future Twinga E-Tech owners could drive a car that is designed with the future in mind, but at the same time manufactured in the heart of Slovenia, where tradition and modern car production meet. This would be another important milestone for Renault, as well as for the Slovenian automotive industry.
