In an era where SUVs seem to rule the world, Audi is boldly continuing the tradition of elegant and practical station wagons. The new generation of the A6 Avant 2025 (C9) not only continues the legacy of its predecessors, but also brings even more technology, comfort and prestige. It will first be presented to us as a station wagon, with a sedan to follow in April.
Audi has opted for a slightly unusual color choice for the presentation photos – brown isn’t exactly the first choice for most buyers, but it still emphasizes the sophistication of the design. Interestingly, the brand has also abandoned the original plan to rename the A6 to the A7 Avant in order to separate the internal combustion engine models from the electric versions. This means that the Audi A6 Avant 2025 name will be retained, while the electric version will continue to carry the name A6 Avant e-tron.
Aerodynamics and dimensions: the quietest Audi station wagon ever – A6 Avant 2025
Audi is new A6 Avant 2025 has ensured exceptional aerodynamics. With a drag coefficient of just 0.25, this is their most aerodynamic station wagon with an internal combustion engine. The length of the car has increased by 58 mm to a total of 4.99 meters, while the wheelbase remains almost the same at 2.92 meters. The station wagon is 1.88 meters wide, offering exceptional spaciousness.
The interior is heavily inspired by the smaller A5 Avant, which means a modern digital environment. The central 14.5-inch infotainment system, 11.9-inch digital instruments and the optional 10.9-inch display for the front passenger create a high-tech atmosphere. Also new is the additional soundproofing, which has been increased by 30 %, without any additional weight.
Engines: from a quiet four-cylinder to a powerful V6
The new generation of the A6 Avant 2025 brings three basic powertrains. The base model is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with 201 hp (150 kW) and 339 Nm of torque, which transmits power only to the front wheels. For diesel engine lovers, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder is available with also 201 hp (150 kW) and a higher torque of 400 Nm. This version is available with both front-wheel drive and quattro all-wheel drive. The most powerful model is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 petrol engine with 362 hp (268 kW) and 550 Nm of torque, which allows acceleration to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds.
The different powertrains also deliver different driving performances. The diesel quattro versions reach 100 km/h in 7.0 seconds, while the four-cylinder petrol achieves this acceleration in 8.3 seconds. Top speeds for all models range between 220 and 250 km/h, depending on the version.
Comfort and technology: driving at the highest level
New platform Premium Platform Combustion (PPC), shared with the A5 Avant, provides greater rigidity and improved handling. Technological improvements include four-wheel steering, which improves agility at low speeds and stability at high speeds, and adaptive air suspension, which allows for greater comfort or a sportier ride. For even greater dynamics, the V6 model offers the optional quattro sport differential, which ensures better torque distribution between the rear wheels.
In addition to the advanced digital design, the interior also brings an interesting innovation – a smart panoramic sunroof that can be changed from transparent to darkened. Drivers can choose between different levels of interior lighting. In addition, the trunk offers 502 liters of volume, which increases to 1530 liters with the seats folded, providing exceptional practicality for family trips or transporting larger items.
Price and competition
In Germany, the new A6 Avant will start at €58,000 for the petrol version and €61,700 for the diesel, putting it squarely in the shoes of rivals such as the BMW 5 Series Touring, Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate and the Volvo V90 (which will be retired).
Conclusion: The A6 Avant remains the king of station wagons
With the new A6 Avant 2025, Audi proves that station wagons are not dead yet – in fact, the brand is taking them to the next level. It combines elegant design, cutting-edge technology and comfort that can compete with premium sedans.
Even though SUVs dominate the market, the A6 Avant remains the perfect choice for those who want practicality without compromising on style and driving dynamics. And who knows? Maybe the next generation RS6 Avant will retain the mighty V8 – at least for another generation.
