Forget everything you know about family cars. The BMW i3 Neue Klasse Touring is not just an electric version of the 3 Series – it is a complete redefinition of how we will drive, charge and enjoy the road in the coming decade.
There’s an unwritten rule in the automotive industry: if you want volume, make an SUV. If you want an icon, make an estate. While the world seems obsessed with tall SUVs, global sales figures show that upscale estates (or “Estate” and “Touring” models) remain the backbone of sales in key markets like Europe, parts of Asia and advanced parts of North America. BMW understands this better than anyone else, which is why the upcoming BMW i3 New Class Touring (codename NA3) one of the most anticipated cars of this decade.
A spatial revolution – the BMW i3 New Class Touring: When the rear becomes the star
The main advantage of the new Neue Klasse platform is its dedicated electric design. With the driveshaft and exhaust system no longer under the floor, the engineers were able to make full use of every millimeter. Although official data is still shrouded in mystery, expert speculation based on the Vision Neue Klasse concept promises:
- Increased wheelbase: This means more legroom in the rear seat, which will rival today's 5 Series.
- Modular trunk: We expect a base volume of well over 520 liters (18.4 cubic feet), which will increase to more than 1,600 liters (56.5 cubic feet) with the seats folded.
- Aerodynamic elegance: The low rear is not only aesthetic, but is key to reducing air resistance, which directly extends range at highway speeds.

Technological Breakthrough: Breathtaking Numbers
At the heart of the i3 Neue Klasse Touring is the 800-volt architecture, which delivers a technological leap comparable to the transition from steam to diesel locomotives. BMW promises 30% more range and 30% faster charging.
- Power and drive: The power range will start at around 221 kW (300 hp) and go all the way up to a brutal 441 kW (600 hp) in the M versions.
- Battery technology: New cylindrical cells will enable a range of up to 800 km (497 miles) according to the WLTP standard.
- Ultra-fast charging: In just 10 minutes, you'll gain enough energy for an additional 300 km (186 miles) of travel.
- Performance: The fastest versions will accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 4 seconds, and the top speed will be limited to 250 km/h (155 mph).
When will we see it on the roads?
The timeline is clear and relentless. BMW plans to launch the sedan version of the i3 in 2026. If we consider the historical pattern of model launches in Munich, where the station wagon (Touring) follows approximately 6 to 12 months later, we can expect the world premiere of the i3 Neue Klasse Touring in September 2026, with the first deliveries to customers in early 2027.
Until then, we offer our renders, which you can view in full on my profile. @janmacarol.
This will be a pivotal year for BMW as it takes on rivals like the Audi A6 e-tron Avant and Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo head-on. We expect the starting price to be around €59,000 (£64,000), putting it squarely in the middle of the premium segment.

Conclusion: Is the BMW i3 Neue Klasse Touring the “perfect” car?
The BMW i3 Neue Klasse Touring doesn't just promise zero-emissions travel from point A to point B. It promises a return to the driving pleasure that SUVs have somewhat stifled. With a low center of gravity, the premium digital experience of Panoramic Vision and the practicality that modern families demand, this model is perhaps the most logical choice for anyone looking for a car for all occasions.
BMW i3 New Class Touring It's visionary, it's spacious, and it's proof that station wagons aren't going anywhere—they've just moved into an electric future. If you're looking for a vehicle that will stand the test of time and technology, the i3 Touring is your next safe bet.
