Apple has officially announced its fall “Awe dropping” event for September 9. The focus will be on the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, which are rumored to get a completely new rear with a horizontal “camera bar”, A19 Pro chip (3 nm), 12 GB RAM, Wi-Fi 7, larger screens (up to 6.9") and upgraded optics: for the first time, all three rear cameras are said to be 48 MP, and the selfie is 24 MP. As always: some things are official, but not much is yet — so we're marking what's official and what's “work-in-progress”.
Apple is officially sent an invitation for September 9 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time (yes, the date is confirmed), setting off a ritual of global attention: new iPhone, new season, new drama in the comments. This year, the big “iPhone 17 Pro Max” is expected to make the biggest leap after years of iterations: new back, new camera, new chip, new wireless skills. But rest assured: Apple hasn’t revealed the specs. What follows is a careful sifting of the wheat (quite likely) from the chaff (not yet confirmed).
What's official (and what's not yet) - iPhone 17 Pro Max
Officially: the date of the “Awe dropping” event on September 9th and the fact that the iPhone will be the central topic. Not official: final name, prices, specifications and exact breakdown of features by model. In terms of software, this year's OS iOS 19 (not “iOS 26” as some rumor tables have been reporting). Apple already talked about extensions at WWDC25 Apple Intelligence in the new edition.
Design: from “square” to camera-bar across the width
The loudest rumors point to a break with the "square" camera in the corner: Pro models (including Pro Max) should get it horizontal camera‑bar across the upper back — something in the style of the Pixel, with Apple's geometry (triangular arrangement of lenses inside the bar). The back is said to be a hybrid aluminum + glassEven with the iPhone 17 Pro Max – no more titanium.
Display: 6.9 inches and 120 Hz remain, possible anti-glare coating
There is no hiding anything in size: Pro Max remains at ~6.9″, Pro at 6.3". All models are said to have 120 Hz LTPO OLED, with more reports of the Pro anti-reflective, more resistant layer (in between there were rumors that it was canceled, then again that the problems were solved — prudent: let's wait). There is also talk of new generation panels and Wi-Fi 7 support in the iPhone 17 family.
Cameras: triple 48MP behind and 24MP in front
This is the biggest photo preview: calf to jump on 48MP, which would mean for the first time three 48‑MP cameras on Pros, and 24‑MP selfie on all iPhone 17 models. There is a spectrum of rumors about optical zoom (from 3.5x to 8x), so we are not “cementing” the number yet.
Chip and performance: A19 Pro (3 nm N3P), 12GB RAM and finally serious cooling
It is supposed to power the Pro models A19 Pro, made in TSMC 3nm (N3P), moderately faster and more efficient than the A18, and alongside it finally 12GB RAMThe biggest difference in performance sustainability can be contributed to by steam chamber (vapor chamber) for better heat dissipation.

Battery and charging: 35W via cable? Qi2.2 up to 25 W? Wireless return — possible
Several sources mention faster wired charging (about 35 W) and Qi2.2 wireless to 25 W on supported chargers. O reverse wireless charging (AirPods, Watch) has been rumored for years; 2025 is said to be closer, but still not set. In short: realistically, let's expect less waiting, but not necessarily Android numbers.
Connectivity: Wi-Fi 7 and expansion eSIM
For the Pro/Pro Max, Wi-Fi 7 is almost a rumor mantra, with some rumors adding that Apple will be in the EU (and maybe elsewhere) expanded eSIM‑only approach, at least in some models (especially the ultra-thin 17 Air). The global and 100‑% slot elimination, however not yet confirmed.
Pricing and availability: between conservative and cautiously higher
Consensus among moderate sources: most models +50 USD; Pro Max could start around $1,249, although there are bold predictions that go much higher ($1,499 — take with a grain of salt). The typical calendar remains: September 9th event, pre-orders in a few days, selling a week later.
Quick guide: what to watch on stage
- New camera bar: is it a design without compromises (weight, robustness, repellency), and how does Apple justify the wider module.
- 48‑MP telephoto: optical zoom (how much is "optical", how much is "crop"), what is the processing in video modes.
- Apple Intelligence in iOS 19: how much it can do on the device and how much in the cloud, and whether the camera's "pro" features are tied to AI.
- Thermals: does the vapor chamber really prevent throttling in gaming and 4K/8K recording.
- Charging: actual watts and whether reverse wireless comes from "rumorland" into reality.
Conclusion: iPhone 17 Pro Max
If Apple really pulls camera-bar across the back, upgraded all three rear cameras to 48MP, added A19 Pro (N3P) with 12GB RAM and strengthened charging, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is the most “pro” iPhone in years. But until Tim Cook shows off his iron on stage, let's be scientifically curious and healthy skeptics: we've marked what's confirmed and what's still part of the experimental prediction. September 9 brings the finale — and we'll happily pick up the crumbs as they fall.
