Tesla has long been synonymous not only with electric cars, but with innovations that are changing the world of mobility. Now a new milestone is in the offing: the Model Q, often referred to as the Model 2, which is set to become the affordable entry into the Tesla ecosystem. With an expected release in the first half of 2025 and promises of a price below 30,000 euros with subsidies, this car is already a hot topic. What do we know about it and will it really live up to the high expectations? Let's dive into the details.

According to official information revealed by the CFO Tesla Vaibhav Taneja on the conference call for the fourth quarter of 2024 results (January 29, 2025), the Model Q is scheduled for release in the first half of 2025, with the possibility of production starting by June of that year. Speculation about a 2024 release has been rife, but Elon Musk refuted at the beginning of last year with doubts about the feasibility of a cheaper model (The Independent, 24 December 2024)The project was then given the green light in the second half of 2024, reassuring fans and confirming Tesla's commitment to expanding its offering.

Price: Under 30,000 euros in Europe?

The biggest attraction of the Model Q is its price. Reportedly Find My Electric (December 12, 2024) the base price is expected to be under $30,000 with subsidies, and could be even lower in Europe. Compared to the Model 3, which starts around €40,000, it is expected to be Model Q about 7,000 euros cheaper. With European subsidies, which are quite generous in some countries, the price could easily fall below 30,000 euros, which is also confirmed by speculation on Carwow (December 16, 2024), where they mention a price below 24,000 GBP in the UK. This would Tesla Model S placed it alongside competitors such as the Volkswagen ID.3, MG4, Cupra Born and BYD Dolphin. In terms of price and also basic dimensions.

Hatchback close to SUV shape

Everything indicates that the new Tesla Model Q will not be a classic hatchback, but will enter the popular segment of small electric SUVs (segment B). With a length of around 4.20 meters, it will compete with models such as the Volkswagen ID.2, Peugeot e-2008 and Renault Megane E-Tech – except that, if Tesla tradition is to be believed, it will probably be faster, bolder, and full of technological surprises.

Tesla has proven time and again that aerodynamics is not just a scientific term, but a true art. Therefore, we can expect an extremely low drag coefficient, which will contribute to a longer range. Design features will be inspired by the futuristic Cybercab, but adapted to the realities of everyday driving - so less space adventure and more elegant aerodynamic sophistication.

Technology and production

Tesla is clearly betting on smart optimization. Tesla Model S It is said to be based on a combination of existing platforms like the Model 3 and Model Y, along with new next-generation technologies, Teslarati revealed. This means it could be produced on existing lines, reducing costs and speeding up delivery. While it will be affordable, it is expected to retain some of Tesla's features, such as its advanced driver assistance system, perhaps in a slightly simplified form.

Tesla Model S will be an entry-level model that won't sacrifice practicality for price. The battery won't be significantly smaller than those in other models - it will reportedly use lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries, which are cheaper but still provide a solid range of around 300 kilometers - we're talking real kilometers. (TopElectricSUV, March 5, 2025)The car will be slightly smaller – about 15 % smaller and 30 % lighter than the Model 3 (Kelley Blue Book, December 12, 2024) – but still comparably usable. According to TopElectricSUV (February 18, 2025), it will offer space for four adults and three large suitcases, making it a compact but city-friendly car similar to the Mini.

The battery should have a capacity about 50 kWh, which means a great balance between range and cost-effectiveness – just right for those who want an electric car without the astronomical price tag. Electric motor Tesla Model S It is expected to produce around 200 horsepower (147 kW), which will be more than enough for dynamic city driving and carefree trips outside urban centers. In short, the acceleration will be Tesla-like, but without unnecessary excesses that would drain the battery faster than an empty refrigerator after a night's visit. In all likelihood, there will also be a version with close to 300 horsepower.

One of the most intriguing new features of the Model Q is said to be the absence of traditional cables. Instead of meters and meters of wires, Tesla will connect many functions, such as lights and accessories, via wireless communication - similar to the Cybertruck. This means not only a less complex wiring harness (and less frustration when it breaks), but also lower weight and lower production costs. If it really works, the Model Q could set a new standard in the automotive industry – and who wouldn’t find the idea of a car without miles of cables appealing?

If Tesla continues to steadily pave its way towards an autonomous future, then we can expect it to Tesla Model S offer fully autonomous driving – similar to the futuristic Cybercab. This means that the car will theoretically be able to drive itself around, and owners will be able to integrate it into the Tesla Robotaxi network and “rent out” it to other users in their free time. In other words – your car could serve you while you carefreely sip coffee on the couch at home. The idea is great, now let's just wait for it to actually happen.

Will the Model Q save the EV revolution?

How many times have we heard promises of affordable electric cars that would finally move the EV revolution from the realm of dreams to reality? Too many times. But Tesla has one important advantage – the experience, capital and technology to actually make it happen.

If the Model Q does indeed arrive with a price tag of around 30,000 euros, while offering decent autonomy, solid range and innovative manufacturing approaches, it could be the breakthrough moment we've been waiting for. But - Tesla is Tesla. We've learned that expecting the unexpected is almost part of their marketing.

We'll see if the Model Q is as affordable as the rumors say. Until then, there's only one key question: will Musk keep his word this time? We're expected to get official information in May 2025. Until then, let's let our imagination run wild. 🚀

A history of rumors and expectations
The story of Tesla Model S has been dragging on since 2018, when rumors of an affordable Tesla car first emerged. In 2024 the project was hanging in the balance – Elon Musk publicly expressed concerns about its feasibility, which sparked speculation about its cancellation (Electrek, December 9, 2024)But Tesla later confirmed the continuation, which strengthened confidence. At the annual shareholder meeting in June 2024, there were no concrete announcements about Model Q (Teslarati, June 19, 2024), but the event indicated that the company remains focused on expansion.

What does Model Q bring?

If it will Tesla Model S If it delivers on its promises, it could shake up the electric vehicle market. The affordability combined with the reliability of the Tesla brand could accelerate the transition to electromobility, especially in cities where a range of 300 kilometers is more than enough. The compact design suggests that it is aimed at the urban population and those looking for an alternative to gasoline cars without major compromises. It will definitely go into the segment where the Mini goes and we believe that it will appeal to younger people!

Tesla Model S promises to be an affordable electric car that combines practicality, Tesla innovation and an attractive price. Although there were no surprises in 2024, everything indicates that we are waiting for an exciting debut in the first half of 2025. Will it really become the “people's Tesla”, bringing electromobility closer to everyone? We will get the answer soon – but until then, we remain curious and full of expectations.
