The film that earned cult status in the 1990s is about to get its sequel!
It's no secret that Hollywood producers love sequels. For them, this is an easy way to make money with the popularity of heroes who have already appeared on the big screen once and won the affection of the audience. Most sequels are released only a few years apart from their predecessors, in order to be better received and to satisfy movie fans' hunger for new stories with the same characters. However, there are also those that come out a few decades later, such as The Color of Money (1986) and Blade Runner 2049 (2017), which appeared in cinemas 27 and 35 years after the release of their predecessors. The continuation of the very popular action film from the 1990s follows the same tradition.
It's a movie Face/Off from way back in 1997, directed by the famous Hong Kong director John Woo. If you don't remember - it was a very bad action thriller in which they starred John Travolta and Nicholas Cage. The first of them played FBI agent Sean Archer, and the second played terrorist Castor Troy. What set this movie apart from a lot of similar films about the game of cat and mouse between law enforcement officials and criminals is the very original, and some will say very funny, story. In this film, Agent Archer swaps his face with the captured terrorist Troy, who is in a coma, in order to find out where he planted the bomb that will explode in a few days.
Faceless grossed US$245.7 million at the box office, but many mocked it in the years that followed. Still, it got a hit among some action movie fans cult status, which is probably the reason it's getting its own sequel soon.
He will work on a new film Adam Wingard, who recently directed the sci-fi action thriller Godzilla vs. Kong. He is currently working on a script with Simon Barrett, but it has not yet been confirmed whether Travolta and Cage will reprise their memorable roles. Paramount Pictures will be in charge of producing the film.
