Timex's story with the Intrepid is one of those pop culture loops that just won't close. The rise of the '90s preppy aesthetic, Ryan Murphy's new series about JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, and Instagram detective Brynn Wallner (Dimepiece) digging up a "John John's" Timex in the Getty archives — all led to this spring's 46-millimeter reissue, which sold out immediately. And in August, an even better "remix" followed: the 36-mm Intrepid x Dimepiece.
Timex, Dimepiece and Foundwell have teamed up to shrink the iconic Intrepid from 46mm to 36mm, adding a cream dial, purple accents and a simpler time (60-minute) bezel. Still 100m water resistance, quartz, INDIGLO button — now in purple. Launch price Timex Intrepid x Dimepiece 239 $/€, status in several places: sold out.
Why Intrepid is returning right now
The original 1995 Intrepid was a sailing-focused sports watch with a distinct identity and, of course, a story on the wrist of JFK Jr. When Timex brought the 46mm model back in April, it was a very faithful reissue — and an express sellout. So the new step is logical: same idea, better ergonomics.
36mm, more wrists, fewer excuses
Size is key. The new Intrepid x Dimepiece measures 36mm in diameter and 10mm in height. It retains the cushion-shaped stainless steel case, the iconic crown at 4 o'clock, and 100m of water resistance. It's that sweet spot where a watch looks vintage but is wearable every day.
Bezel without logarithms: sailing in real life
The big difference to the 46mm reissue? The bezel. This year’s April model featured a unidirectional slide rule with logarithmic scales (once useful for navigation), while the August 36 has a cleaner 60-minute count-up dial. Less niche, more utility — pizza in the oven, intervals in the pool, or parking at a parking meter.
INDIGLO remains — now with a purple “click”
INDIGLO, the iconic illumination from the early 90s, remains the main trick: a dedicated button at 9 o'clock illuminates the entire dial. In this edition, the button gets a Dimepiece signature in a purple hue, as do the seconds and 12th index; the illumination itself glows purple. Subtle, but very 2025.
About aesthetics: from snow white to warm “cream”
Timex has swapped out the sterile white for a warmer cream dial. Combined with the black chapter ring and skeleton hands, we get that clean, almost magazine-like contrast aesthetic that made the Intrepid look more expensive than it was back in the 90s. And on the back, there’s the TIMEX x DIMEPIECE co-branding.

What does this 36mm “remix” tell us?
This isn’t just a nostalgic flashback. It’s a clear signal that the mainstream is once again leaning towards smaller diameters, more inclusive designs, and “daily-beater” usability. Timex hasn’t just shortened the distance to wrists that find 46mm too big — it’s also swapped out the technically “geeky” bezel feature for something we use five times a week. The result is a watch that understands the year 2025 but still speaks the language of 1995.
