The trailer for the long-awaited movie Ammonite (2020), starring Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan, was recently released. Many already see the film in the Oscar race.
The story of the romantic drama takes us to the 1840s in Great Britain, the main character of the film is paleontologist Mary Anning (Kate Winslet). Although she is credited with numerous geological discoveries, she now lives a quiet life, collecting small fossils to sell to tourists, earning a little for herself and her sick mother. But her life is turned upside down when a rich tourist visits her and asks her to take care of his wife Charlotte (Saoirse Ronan), who suffers from "melancholia". Although the girls initially do not understand each other due to differences in character and social status, Mary and Charlotte eventually begin to weave a very special relationship and they fall in love.
Ammonite directed Francis Lee, and in addition to Winslet and Ronan, they also play in the film Gemma Jones, Fiona Shaw, James McArdle and Alec Secareanu. The film was originally supposed to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival, but it was canceled due to the pandemic. The premiere of the film is expected to take place at the Toronto Film Festival in September, and we are expecting it in the cinema November 13.
