Need more legroom on the plane? Can't stretch your legs or have nowhere to rest your arms? Check out the following tricks.
We all like to travel as comfortably as possible, so we need more legroom on the plane, as we get in economy class. But there are some tricks that can significantly change our travel experience without breaking the bank.
Seat replacement strategy
The key to extra legroom is in the art of strategic seat swapping. Many passengers may not realize that some airplane seats have more space than others. Airlines often label seats in the exit row, aisle seats, and some seats near emergency exits as seats with extra legroom.
So if you are not traveling with children, they will gladly accommodate you there. These seats are often available for an additional fee, but if you kindly ask the flight attendant before the flight if any are still available, you may be lucky. Sometimes, due to last minute changes or availability, ground flight attendants are authorized to reassign seats at their discretion.
Early registration advantage
First come, first served. The same principle applies when providing additional legroom. Airlines release unassigned seats during the check-in process. Applying as early as possible – preferably online at the earliest possible moment – increases your chances of getting those coveted seats.
Strategic time
Consider the time of your flight. Opting for off-peak travel times, such as mid-week or early morning flights, increases the likelihood that you will have more seats available on the plane. This surplus of available seats can work in your favor when you're looking for that elusive extra legroom.
Loyalty programs
If you are a member of an airline loyalty program or have a certain status with an airline, use it to your advantage. Loyalty members often enjoy benefits such as free seat upgrades, including those with extra legroom.
