There are parts of the world where every morning is like a fairy tale. There, instead of a loud alarm clock, we are woken up by the chirping of birds, and instead of cold gray fog, we are caressed by the warm rays of the sun in the morning. There is peace everywhere and everywhere we look we are filled with green color in different shades.
And all that is important on that day is to let it go, and nature with its beauty and surprises will take care of everything else. And where is such a corner? Does it really exist? Of course, but to achieve it, we will have to put in a little effort. Our shirts will be drenched with sweat, our endurance and perseverance will be tested, but all will be paid off and forgotten as soon as we reach our destination, in the valley of the Triglav lakes.
Horuk up
Several paths lead us to our destination, the Triglav Lakes. From the Bohinj side, access is possible via the Blato valley, from the Savica waterfall or across the Komna. But this time we decide for a fresh start. Drive along the Gorenje highway in the direction of Bled and continue to Bohinj, then follow the signs to Dom pri Savica. If we wish, we can visit one of the most visited Slovenian waterfalls, whose gentle drizzle provides pleasant refreshment even on hot days. The earliest visitors will be rewarded with a beautiful rainbow created in the morning hours when the sun's rays are caught in its falling strands of water. To see this natural beauty, we will charge 2 euros (children 1 euro), and you also have to pay for the parking fee. Even if we didn't decide to see the waterfall up close, we will be treated to the vocal scenery of the roaring waterfall for quite some time as we climb the well-marked path. It starts at Dom pri Savica and takes us via Komarča to our destination. But let's not forget to take time during the ascent to observe the vegetation, which constantly changes with the height gained. The trees will become more and more sparse, and our view will be spoiled by various mountain flowers, including the Triglav rose and the Triglav marmot. The Triglav rose can be recognized by its cushion-like growth with dense silver-grey hairs on the leaves and its white or pink flower, while the Triglav marmot can be spotted from afar because of its blue flowers that grow from a densely leafy stem.
Effort paid off
After about two and a half hours, a view of the 8 kilometer long valley of the Triglav lakes will open up in front of us, where the first lake, Jezero pod Vršacem, will welcome us. Leto is the highest lying (1991 m above sea level), 90 meters long and 40 to 60 meters wide. The next lake is the Brown Lake and nearby the Green Lake. The fourth lake is the largest, 300 meters long, and the deepest, up to 15 meters, which is why it is called the Great Lake. A little further, near Koča pri Triglavske jezeri, there are the fifth and sixth, in aquamarine colors, called Dvojno jezero. Half an hour's walk from the cottage lies the seventh lake, Črno jezero, which got its name from its location in a hollow in the middle of the forest. Of all the lakes, this is the warmest, while the average water temperature in the lakes is around 16 degrees Celsius in summer. The Triglav lakes are protected, they belong to the TNP and you should not swim in them. Refreshments and relaxation are therefore offered by Koča pri Triglavske jezeri, where we can have a warm meal, try an apple roll, homemade potica, jota, brandy with sour milk or herbal tea, which is harvested from the surrounding hills. We can admire one of the most beautiful high mountain valleys and extend our stay for a day or two and conquer the peaks of Mala Tičarica (1 hour), Veliki Špičje (2.5 hours) or simply enjoy the beauty of the lakes.
