Just when you think you've seen it all in the world of luxury watches, Ulysse Nardin comes along and presents a watch that weighs less than many desserts. The Ulysse Nardin Diver AIR breaks all records at a mere 52 grams — and without sacrificing robustness, aesthetics or prestige.
If you thought a “serious” dive watch necessarily meant piece of metal, heavy as a gold ore bracelet, it's time to get to know Ulysse Nardin Diver AIR (ref. 3743-170-2A/0A) from the watchmaking house Ulysse NardinThis technologically futuristic piece not only breaks down the weight on the scale, but also preconceptions about what a mechanical watch can offer.
Engineering excess: a skeleton in the service of lightness
The heart of the Diver AIR is the newly designed UN-374 movement, based on the UN-372 caliber known from Diver X SkeletonInstead of saving weight with a smaller diameter, Ulysse Nardin went “full skeleton” — removing the top plate and most of the mass, but maintaining extreme robustness. The movement contains 199 components, 21 bearings, beats at 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour) and provides an incredible 90-hour power reserve.
What's special? A huge oscillator with silicone weights, a silicone anchor, a balance spring, and even a gear train – all built for maximum efficiency and minimal weight.
A watch that breathes durability
The Diver AIR is not just a watch for tech enthusiasts, but also for environmentally conscious fashion icons. The case is made of 90 % recycled titanium, the frame is made of carbon fiber recovered from the hulls of IMOCA sailboats, and the sides and lugs are made of a combination of fishing nets and nylon called Nylo-Foil. In other words — ocean trash has never been worn so stylishly.
Strap? Ultra-light, of course.
The watch comes with two interchangeable textile straps – one in white, the other in orange – both weighing under 6 grams. If the watch without the strap weighs 46 g, that means you're practically at 80 % air, 20 % genius.
