In Milan, Italy, Volvo Cars presented the XC40 model, its first compact SUV. For the Swedish car manufacturer, this is certainly a milestone, as they will add a third SUV to their catalog, which also belongs to its own segment. The Volvo XC40 will be the first Volvo in the class of compact SUVs, which is currently the fastest growing car class.
By merit technologies, which are also found in the 60 and 90 series vehicles, will Volvo XC40 one of the best-equipped compact SUVs on the market.
Safety and assistance equipment includes systems City Safety, Pilot Assist, lane departure warning system (Run-Off Road Protection and Mitigation) and Cross Traffic Alert with 360-degree camera for easier parking. The Volvo XC40 will first be available with two engines – diesel D4 and four-cylinder petrol T5. They will also join them later hybrid and, of course, a fully electric version. The XC40 will also be the first Volvo to be available with new 3 cylinder engine. The XC40 also offers quite a few storage innovations. The space is used even more thoughtfully and efficiently, because they are storage areas even larger and more practical. The drawers in the doors and floor are large, and there is also a special one available space for a mobile phone, where wireless battery charging is enabled.
"With the XC40 model, we are entering the segment of small SUVs for the first time, which provides new directions for the Volvo brand," says Håkan Samuelsson, CEO of Volvo Cars. "It is a fresh, creative and youthful member of the Volvo family. That is why we presented it in Milan, a young and lively European city that is also one of the global metropolises of fashion, art, design and lifestyle."
Production of a new SUV Volvo XC40 is starting in Ghent, Belgium the month of November.
