Virtual reality and water slides? A combination that does not go together in any way. Technology that relies on non-waterproof devices and a form of entertainment that involves gliding on water is not the most appealing. Or is it?
As it turns out, this is not the case. Company Ballast it presented head set VRSlide, which enables a unique virtual reality experience while sliding down a water slide.
The technology behind the innovation is extremely impressive. It's a device waterproof, but it will also work a few meters below the surface of the water. It is based on smartphone software Samsung Galaxy S8. It boasts of tracking system, which uses sensors and monitors to determine the exact location of the user. VRSlide also offers wireless charging function.
At Ballast, they believe that their product represents the first step towards extending virtual reality into water. If everything goes according to plan, people will also be able to enjoy the illusion while swimming.
Although the technology seems very interesting at first glance, it raises a lot of dust. The main question here is whether water slides are really so boring that they should be spiced up with devices that 'teleport' the user into space or onto a snowy mountain?
