They recently unveiled plans for a Venetian theme park that also includes a fifty-five-meter wheel and carousel.
It is a conceptual design of an Italian company Zamperla, which is behind quite a few theme parks around the world. Now, obviously, they would like to win the trophy at home, and why not in the most visited tourist destinations Venice? As expected, the plan raised a lot of dust and divided opinion between those who are wavering and those who are absolutely against it. Only the director of the company is absolutely in favor - judging by the publications in the foreign media Alberto Zamperla.
The plan reveals an amusement park on the uninhabited island of San Biagio, where a crematorium used to be. The project is estimated at 68 million dollars. The park would be thematically focused on Venice and the history of the city. Zamperla promises that they will clean up the area of toxic substances and that the park will bring 500 new jobs. His opinion is that Venice needs an attraction to continue attracting tourists, and that it is his amusement park with the theme of Venetian history as well as a cultural contribution to the city. If everything goes smoothly, Zamperla predicts that the park will be built in two years and that it will attract 11,000 visitors a day. At the same time, Zamperla is aware of the difficulty of the situation. "We tiptoe as if we were walking through a china shop so as not to damage anything," he said when presenting the plans.
There are many ifs in the above lines, and there are even more in the realization of the project. V Venice it is extremely difficult to build, every intervention must be somehow justified. Just this summer, French designer Pierre Cardin scrapped plans for two million tower. He gave up because of the bureaucracy and after wasting more than two years in time and several millions in money on the project. Most Venetians are of the opinion that Venice attracts tourists by itself and that it does not need an attraction for that. The city authorities say that there are already enough attractions in the city and that residents are already leaving the city and moving. The mayor said that everything that is planned to be done in the city must be done with respect and yes Venice they are not amusement park.
We'll see what comes of it. Perhaps in two years we will combine the visit to Venice with adrenaline ride on the carousel.
