The LGBT community strives to gain rights for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transsexuals who have to deal with discrimination in society. Its most recognizable symbol is certainly the pride flag, which combines several different colors.
Artist and gay rights activist Gilbert Baker presented to the public in 1978 a unique symbol with which it was supposed to identify itself LGBT community. Pride flag, as he called his creation, has become established all over the world to this day.
Baker made the flag in a simple way. He sewed it together eight strips of different colors, which hid a deeper meaning. Pink color represents sex, Red life, Orange health, yellow the sun, green nature, turquoise miracle blue peace, purple and determination.
Demand for the product grew rapidly, so the artist decided to pink and turquoise remove the color from the flag. He decided on such a move because the mentioned colors were not available from many flag manufacturers.
In recent years, there have been tendencies to change the rainbow flag. Campaign group More Color More Pride presented a new flag last year. This also contains black and brown tape that marks non-whites in the LGBT community. The public did not accept it with approval.
