Why Black Friday?
The true story of Black Friday is not as romantic as we might think. In the 1950s, the Philadelphia police allegedly used the term Black Friday to describing the traffic chaos that ensued after Thanksgiving because of the Army-Navy football game that took place every year on Saturday. The Philadelphia cops thus had to work double shifts, and the dealers, of course, took advantage of the rush of people after the holiday and prepared offers that would encourage their sales.
Interestingly, since 1961, Black Friday has been like this strongly asserted, that city merchants tried to change the name Black Friday to big friday (Good Friday), but the term did not become popular among the people. It was only towards the end of the old era that merchants around the world managed to turn Black Friday into something positive (for merchants and consumers).
