When do the world's car manufacturers plan a full transition to electricity?

There is no doubt that sooner or later the entire automotive industry will "switch" to electric energy. Just about every major car manufacturer is already introducing fully electric or electrified models of their cars. We have prepared for you an overview of when the inevitable will happen and electricity will rule the automotive world.

More and more fully electric or otherwise electrified car models have been appearing in recent years. Some manufacturers have already sovereignly announced when they will only produce electric or electrified cars. Some of them have already stopped developing the internal combustion engine, while others have set a date when they will actually stop doing so. For an easier overview of the ʺelectricʺ happenings, we have checked for you when the electrical transition will take place. Much will change in just a few years.

Bentley

Bentley is probably not the car manufacturer you think of first when you think of electric cars. But we can overlook it, as the company is very much in favor of electrification. Until the year 2026 all their cars will be plug-in hybrids or fully electric by year 2030, and Bentley will finally say goodbye to exhaust pipes. Bentley is developing not only an electric car, but a whole range of models, the first of which is coming this year 2025, SUV in shape, which will be based on Volkswagen's Artemis platform.

BMW is one of those manufacturers that does not want to give up the internal combustion engine just yet. The development of only these will continue, as they are of the opinion that there will be a need for classic engines for many years to come. Many models of the BMW brand can already be obtained in the form of a plug-in hybrid, and among the fully electric you have two completely new models available, the iX SUV and the i4 sedan. Until the year 2025 plan to sell around 2 million fully electric cars by the year 2030, and half of their global sales will be electrified.

Ford has already surprised the world public with the F-150 Lightning model, which represents the electric version of the best-selling car in the USA. It can travel about 360 kilometers on a single charge and costs less than US$40,000. Until the year 2025 Ford will invest 22 billion US dollars in the production of electrified cars by the year 2050, and plans to become carbon neutral. At the moment, they think the hybrid design with an internal combustion engine is still "suitable" for the future. Due to its strong market and large investments, Ford represents a major player in the field of e-mobility in the coming years.

General Motors

General Motors will be until the year 2035 stopped selling cars powered by diesel or gasoline. This is especially true for the Cadillac brand, which will no longer produce cars with only an internal combustion engine and will electrify the existing range of models for this purpose. Until the year 2030 the Cadillac 100% model range will be electric, and the first model will be the Lyriq SUV. We can expect an electric Hummer, electric SUVs and electric semi-trucks. Chevrolet has updated the Bolt EV model, and there is also an electric Silverado with a 400-mile range. GM plans to be carbon neutral by year 2040.

After the flight 2022 you will be able to be in Europe from Honda bought only an electric or hybrid car. Even the Honda Civic in the new generation will only be available here as a hybrid. Until the year 2030 already 40% of cars sold are said to be electrified or will be powered by hydrogen. Until the year 2040 however, they are planning to completely stop the production of cars with an internal combustion engine. One of the first fully electric cars will be the Prologue model, which will be produced at General Motors factories. Honda is among the few manufacturers pushing for a hydrogen-powered drive that could replace ever-increasing car batteries.

Hyundai & Kia

Hyundai Motor Group has not yet advocated a complete transition to electricity, but they have confirmed that they will by the year 2025 invested 7.4 billion US dollars, for the production of electric vehicles in the United States and reduced the production of internal combustion engines by 50%. At the moment, the most current electric models are the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6. Hyundai will devote itself to the development of fuel cells, especially on domestic, Korean soil. Kia will be until the year 2027 presented 7 electrified models, until the year 2026, and plans to sell half a million electrified cars. Hyundai is also of the opinion that fuel cells are more suitable for powering trucks than heavy batteries would be.

Jaguar-Land Rover

With an annual investment of 3.4 billion US dollars, under the umbrella of the ʺReimagineʺ project, all vehicles will Jaguar-Land Rover electrified by year 2030. The new Jaguar I-Pace, which will be based on a new electric platform, will be presented shortly 2024 and we will see an electric Land Rover, which will be followed by an electric Range Rover. In the next five years, we can expect 6 electric Land Rover models.

Mazda aims to become carbon neutral by the year 2050. They will continue to develop classic engines and at the same time until the year 2025 presented the new SkyActive EV electric platform. It will be used for 5 hybrids, 5 plug-in hybrids and 3 fully electric models. It is expected that they will be until the year 2030 all Mazda models are electrified in one way or another.

Mercedes-Benz

From 2025 onwards, will be all new automotive platforms Mercedes-Benz electrical. Until then, they plan to almost eliminate the funds that will be allocated to the development of classic engines. A year 2030 but it is supposed to be when Mercedes-Benz becomes completely electric. Until the year 2026 80% reduction of funds for the development of classic and plug-in hybrid forms of drive is foreseen, between years 2022 and 2030, and they plan to invest more than 40 billion euros in the development of electric cars.

Mitsubishi

Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi was among the pioneers of electric cars when they introduced the electric I-MiEV and the Outlander plug-in hybrid. They prepared the Airtrek model for the Chinese market.

Nissan

Nissan was one of the first to put a fully electric car on the road, the Nissan Leaf. Until the year 2023 will have 8 electric models in their offer, and in the future they plan to sell one million hybrid and electric cars annually. They will build a plant for the production of electric vehicles in Sunderland, England, in which they will invest one billion English pounds. The Nissan Ariya SUV will be available among the first electric models.

Rolls-Royce

Rolls-Royce is preparing its first electric car called Silent Shadow, which will be based on the Phantom model platform. It is supposed to use the technology that the BMW iX has.

Stellantis (formerly Fiat Chrysler)

Company Stellantis intends to by year 2025 to invest 35.5 billion US dollars in the development of electric cars. In the year 2024 the Ram 1500 electric pickup truck is coming, and it will be joined by the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe and Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrids. Until the year 2025 each of the models of the Jeep brand will also be available in electric form. Stellantis will bring 55 electrified models to the market by the end of the year 2025, and only these will represent the 70% of Stellantis sales in Europe and the 40% in the US. The date by which they will abandon the classic engines is not yet known.

Also Toyota bets on fuel cells, up to the year 2025, will have as many as 70 electrified models or versions of cars on offer. 15 will be fully electric, and 7 will be offered under the Beyond Zero bz brand. Toyota is trying to make it by year 2050 became a carbon neutral company. Toyota's best-known hybrid, the Prius, paved the way for other hybrids, making Toyota currently the leading seller of hybrid cars.

Volkswagen

After Volkswagen's forecasts, it will be by year 2030, 70% their sales one way or another electrified. The company already has a few models in its offer, but they are planning as many as 70 electrified models or their variants. Project Artemis predicts the arrival of an extremely efficient electric car by the year 2024. In the year 2026 Volkswagen will produce the last platform based on an internal combustion engine.

Volvo will be from 2030 produced only electric cars, which were supposed to be available only through online purchase. Until the year 2025 half of the sales will be electric cars, and the remaining half will be hybrids. Volvo's first fully electric car is the XC40 Recharge, but we mustn't forget the Polestar, which is also based on electricity.
