Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo: When the Chinese smartphone giant switches to “Hyper” mode and mocks the laws of physics

A phone that you can't put in your pocket, but you can use to defeat gravity.

Forget everything you thought you knew about Chinese cars. Xiaomi is no longer just that guy who sells you a great phone for half the price, but has just entered the supercar league with a vision that would scare even Ferrari engineers. Introducing the Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo – a digital monster made real.

If you had told me ten years ago that the company that makes my favorite robot vacuum cleaners would create a hypercar that I would happily park in my dream garage, I would probably have asked you what fuel you drank this morning. But here we are. Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo is not just another study for a video game; it is a statement of superiority. Developed by design teams in Munich, Beijing and Shanghai, this car doesn't just move air – it tames it, chews it and spits it out with the precision of a surgeon.

Aerodynamics: Teardrop and magic rims

The car’s core philosophy is “Sculpted by the Wind.” The Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo’s teardrop-shaped body doesn’t just serve to look like something out of the next Batman movie. Air actually travels through the car, not just around it. Front vents guide air through internal channels, eliminating the need for the huge, clunky wings that typically mar the lines of supercars.

And then there are the wheels. Xiaomi has introduced what it calls Accretion Rims. It's a magnetic system where the rim covers remain stationary while the wheel spins underneath. This drastically reduces air resistance, while built-in cooling fins ensure that the massive carbon-ceramic brakes don't melt during the first serious braking.

“When I saw their comprehensive solutions for balancing low drag and high downforce, I was honestly amazed,” said Kazunori Yamauchi, legendary creator of the Gran Turismo series.

Numbers that will make you dizzy

Although the car is primarily designed for PlayStation's virtual tracks, the technical specifications revealed at MWC 2026 in Barcelona are downright scary. Under the hood (or rather, in the bottom) is a 900V Silicon Carbide (SiC) platform, which is a generational leap forward compared to most electric vehicles today.

  • Power: Theoretical 1,417 kW (1,900 hp / 1,900 KM).
  • Torque: More than enough to change the Earth's rotation (exact numbers are still awaiting confirmation, but we are talking about a range of over 2,000 Nm).
  • Final speed: Around 350 km/h (217 mph).
  • Air drag coefficient (Cd): Only 0.29, which is a phenomenal achievement for a hypercar with such downforce.

For comparison: this beast has more power than a Ferrari Vision GT or even a Bugatti Chiron. This is no longer a toy; it's a technological hammer.

Interior: Sofa Racer – Racing from your home couch

The interior of the Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo, dubbed the Sofa Racer, is perhaps the most unusual part of the car. Forget about the hard carbon shells that will crush your spine after five minutes. Xiaomi has used 3D-knitted fabrics that allow air to flow through the seat surface itself. The entire cockpit is designed as a continuous loop that hugs the driver and passenger, while the Xiaomi Pulse smart assistant (powered by the MiMo AI model) offers you 360-degree interaction through light and sound.

Connectivity: Integration into the “Human x Car x Home” ecosystem. Yes, you can probably turn off your smart light in the living room directly from the steering wheel while you’re speeding through a corner at Spa-Francorchamps.

Conclusion: Is this the future or just a beautiful dream?

The Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo is proof that tech companies have become the new rulers of the automotive industry. While you'll probably never see it on the road in physical form (except as a showpiece), innovations like the Active Wake Control System (a matrix of holes in the rear that directs air) and magnetic rims are a clear signal to competitors.

My personal opinion? If Xiaomi will include in its future series models such as SU7 Ultra (which already breaks records at the Nürburgring with a time of 7:04.957), can withstand even a tenth of that audacity, then the traditional manufacturers are in serious trouble. The price for this virtual experience? Free as part of an update to the Gran Turismo 7 game. As for the physical version… well, if you have to ask the price, you probably don't own an electric vehicle charging station in the middle of Monaco.

This is Xiaomi – bold, cynical about tradition, and incredibly inspiring at the same time.
