At its world premiere, Finnish XO Boats presented a model that surpasses all their previous creations in every way. The XO EXPLR 44 is not just another fast speedboat. It is a true, robust "off-road boat", created for those who demand high performance without sacrificing comfort and thoughtful design. How successfully have the Finns combined extreme performance, exceptional usability and the characteristic XO aesthetic? Let's climb aboard and take a closer look.
XO EXPLR 44 offers configurations to satisfy even the most demanding speed enthusiasts. Three Mercury V10 engines with 400 horsepower each (294 kW) or twin Mercury V12 engines with 600 horsepower (441 kW) provide a total power output of up to an impressive 1200 horsepower (883 kW). This gives the boat a top speed of around 47 knots (87 km/h), with a cruising speed of 35 knots (65 km/h) and provides a range of approximately 240 nautical miles (445 km).
Regardless of the choice of engines, it is a true "rocket on the water", designed to quickly and safely bring the crew to even the most remote destinations.
On deck: robustness, elegance and practicality
The hull and deck of the XO EXPLR 44 are made entirely of aluminum, with a fiberglass superstructure, providing an exceptional combination of durability, low weight and superior sailing dynamics. The elegant color choice – either deep black or exclusive champagne metallic – complements the sharply cut lines and emphasizes the character of the boat, which appears raw and refined at the same time.
The deck spaces are designed functionally and symmetrically. Despite the three powerful XO EXPLR 44 outboard engines at the stern, the passage along the sides remains relaxed, with beautifully integrated solutions such as sponsons with ladder, an electric lifting table that can be transformed into a sun lounge and the possibility of installing sunshades that transform the deck into a real “salon on the water”. Wherever you are on board, storage solutions are at hand, from elegantly hidden cooler drawers to numerous rope and anchor moorings at the stern.
Interior of the XO EXPLR 44: light, spaciousness and Scandinavian minimalism
Beneath the robust hull of the XO EXPLR 44 lies an unexpectedly spacious and bright interior. The main saloon is wonderfully lit, thanks to large glass surfaces and an electric sunroof that enhances the feeling of openness. The layout with seating and dining table is flexible – you can lower the table to create an extra berth or instantly transform the saloon for comfortable sailing.
The helm is a true hub of technology: two large Garmin displays, a Seakeeper stabilization system, a 360-degree SurroundView view and a smart Mercury steering system ensure that the skipper has full control of the boat even during the most demanding maneuvers. The control levers are ergonomically positioned, and the materials on the dashboard prevent reflections and glare - a necessary feature for fast sailing in demanding conditions.
The only real complaint is the limited cooling: there are two refrigerators on deck, but for longer cruises, we would like additional cooling capacity.
Cabin area: more than just a place to sleep
The XO EXPLR 44 offers two completely separate cabins. The owner's cabin is located in the bow with a wide bed, private bathroom and enough headroom for a comfortable stay. Light oak wood combined with large glass surfaces creates a pleasant, modern atmosphere.
Beneath the main saloon is a second, surprisingly spacious cabin with two separate berths that can be combined into a large double bed with a simple addition. This cabin also has its own bathroom – functional and appropriately sized considering the space offered by the boat's hull.
Although there aren't many classic closets for hanging clothes, there are plenty of open storage areas cleverly arranged, which is in keeping with the nature of a boat intended primarily for short-term adventures and dynamic use.
On the high seas: performance that impresses
Although the XO EXPLR 44 has been thoroughly tested on land, its true qualities are only revealed on the open sea. With a range of up to 1200 horsepower and a superbly optimised aluminium construction, the boat promises fast, confident and extremely exciting sailing even at high speeds. The first water tests will take place in the coming months – and we can hardly wait for them.
Price: how much will it cost you to enter the world of the most powerful XO?
When entering the world of the XO EXPLR 44, it is important to be aware that robustness and performance do not come cheap. The base price of this model without engines is approximately 600.000 € (around $640,000), but with the choice of the most powerful powertrains – twin 600 hp Mercury V12 engines – and extensive additional equipment (Seakeeper stabilizer, real tick, surround view cameras), the final price can go up to 700.000 € (approx $750,000).
While it may seem at first glance that the XO is approaching the territory of “super boats” like the Brabus, it is worth noting that it offers a unique combination of robustness, performance and usability that is rarely found in the competition. Compared to the Brabus Shadow 1200 Cross Cabin, for example, the XO EXPLR 44 offers more raw usability and less flashy fashion – which is often exactly what true nautical enthusiasts demand.
Conclusion: a new standard for sporty explorers
XO EXPLR 44 is not just a new model in the Finnish manufacturer's range - it is a clear statement of ambition and expertise. Combining relentless robustness, luxurious interior and extreme performance, the boat easily competes with prestigious competitors such as Brabus Shadow 1200.
If you need a vessel that will take you through wind, waves and sun without compromise, while offering the shelter of a luxurious interior, then the XO EXPLR 44 will definitely not leave you indifferent.
What about you – would you choose the Scandinavian robustness of the XO or the prestigious power of the Brabus?
