Youth, madness: 10+ things we all WISHED we knew as teenagers

We've all been there once - in the scary but often exciting teenage years - pimples, first love, experimenting with beer and wine, fighting with parents and missing class. These are probably the most common answers to the question of what teenage life is like. At that time, you often get the feeling that no one understands you at all. BUT THIS IS NO WAY TRUE!

10+ things you wished you knew as a teenager:

Failures are necessary and very instructive.

Failures and mistakes are the tools that help us to improve our work and ourselves. During our teenage years, we have particularly high expectations of ourselves, and when we don't succeed in something, it's hard for us to bear it.

You need to know how to take care of yourself.

Everyone must learn to take care of themselves, recognize their needs and satisfy them. This is not a question of egocentrism and selfishness, but of self-compassion and an empathic attitude towards oneself.

Cool peers are not so cool.

Popular girls and boys were, in our teenage eyes, an unattainable ideal that we could only aspire to. However, popularity does not mean happiness and does not guarantee success later in life.

Popularity does not guarantee a happy future.

Success at school does not determine your later career.

Education is definitely important. And exploiting one's own potentials as well. However, brilliant grades are far from the only thing that defines us, and perfectionism causes a lot of stress and unnecessary feelings of anxiety.

There are many other fish in the sea.

You will get over her/him. Although in the teenage years this sounds more incredible than the most fictional and utopian novel, it turns out to be the complete truth. Teenage crushes are intense and rejections are rarely as painful, but hearts do heal nonetheless.

When you grow up, you won't have all the answers.

At a young age, many people think that old age will bring us answers to all our questions. However, this is unfortunately not the case. The more we know, the more our horizons open up and the more we realize how little we actually understand the world.

Your attitude will change.

Your virtues, attitude towards others and priorities will change many times in your life. As teenagers, we're convinced that we'll forever be fans of rock music, or that we'll never agree with anyone more than our favorite YouTuber. But when we grow up, other things come our way and our attitude changes.

Seize opportunities.

During our teenage years, it seems like we will be forever young. We have many years of youth and new experiences ahead of us, so it's nothing bad if we sit at the computer and play online games for a few days. However, those days quickly turn into weeks and those into months, and opportunities slip past us.

Being in love doesn't mean love.

Treat yourself to dessert.

Many teenagers, especially girls, are very strict about their diet during these years. However, the "perfect body" is a myth that only a few can achieve. A piece of cake then makes you much happier than it does harm.

Butterflies in the stomach are not necessarily a sign of true love.

Exhilaration, admiration and good old butterflies in the stomach are not a sign of fatal love. True love is calm, deep and tender.

Even your ghosts were teenagers once.

When we were young, our parents were often our worst enemies. They prevent us from staying up all night, force us to study and get smarter, smarter and smarter. However, they could also be used many times as support and allies - although it sounds very funny, they were once teenagers too.
