1. The Mist (2007)


The film about the strange and mysterious fog is based on the novel of the same name written by Stephen King. The screenplay for it was written by Frank Darabont, but he predicted a more tragic ending than the original, which Stephen King favored.

2. Dancer in the Dark (2000)


Lars von Trier's film is about Selma Jezkova (Björk), an immigrant of Czech origin, who lives with her son in a trailer in the garden of police officer Bill (David Morse) and his wife Linda (Cara Seymour). Selma is seriously ill, as her vision deteriorates day by day, and the same disease is also destined for her son if he is not operated on in time.

3. The Passion of the Christ (2004)


The Passion of the Christ is a 2004 Mel Gibson historical film depicting the last twelve hours of Jesus Christ's life before his crucifixion (passion).

4. Brokeback Mountain (2005)

The film is set in the 1930s, in Cold Mountain State Penitentiary, where prison guard Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) served for many years. His job included escorting death-row inmates to the death cell, which was reached by a mile-long path covered with green linoleum.

6. Irreversible (2002)


The film begins where the story ends, that is, with a showdown in a gay nightclub, where Marcus and Pierre arrive armed with guns to find their girlfriend's rapist. Director Gaspar Noé takes us to the evening of the mentioned night in ten sequences, all shot in one frame.

7. Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom (1975)


It is a story about fat rich rulers who do not miss an opportunity to grab even more wealth. Salo is the work of murdered Italian director Pier Paolo Pasolini and is considered one of the most infamous and shocking cinematic transgressions of all time.

8. Blue Valentine (2010)


The film presents an intimate, dramatic portrait of the breakdown of a marriage. Once passionate lovers, Cindy and Dean are married with a daughter and want to save their marriage by sneaking into a themed hotel. Then we see what they were like years ago when they met, fell in love and were full of life and hope.

9. Requiem For A Dream (2000)


Requiem for a Dream simultaneously tells the stories of four residents of Coney Island who would like to realize their dream of a better life at any cost. The film is based on the novel Last Exit for Brooklyn by Hubert Selby Jr., who said of Darren Aronofsky's film: ”I burst into tears. If people experience at least as much of a reaction as I did, they will surely feel something deep down. Everyone who lives on this planet will find a part of themselves in the story.”

10. 12 Years a Slave (12 Years a Slave, 2013)


12 Years a Slave is a superbly directed and acted historical drama that cuts deep into the viewer's soul. It is a true biographical story about Solomon, a black man who works freely and lives happily with his family in New York in the middle of the 19th century. The dupes then offer him a job, but he is kidnapped and sold into slavery.
