When the world expected an all-electric future for the iconic Mini Cooper, the brand was in for a surprise. They introduced a completely new generation of Mini Coopers, the C and S models, which will continue to be powered by gasoline engines. Mini has revealed that the first models of the new generation (chassis F66) will be available with a 2.0-liter turbo engine, even before the electric version comes to market. This is great news for fans of the brand, who may have worried that Mini was ditching the petrol versions of its Coopers altogether for 2025. Instead, the Mini Cooper lives on in the form of the Cooper C and sportier Cooper S, sharing the redesign with the electric model, providing a go-kart-like ride and a Mini design that remains available without the need for a charger.

This, according to Mini, allows customers to experience the 2025 Mini Cooper and all future Mini models the way they want. In the case of the Mini Cooper, the petrol engine is aimed at those who "appreciate the traditional performance and distinctive sound of an internal combustion engine," says Stefanie Wurst, head of the Mini brand.

On the other hand, the three-cylinder engine of the Mini Cooper C offers a power of 115 kW (156 hp) and a torque of 230 Nm, allowing the vehicle to reach 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds. Those hoping for a manual transmission will be disappointed. No 2025 Mini Cooper will offer a manual transmission. Indeed, there is no classic gearbox at all in any new Cooper; a switch is used to select reverse, neutral, forward and forward, and the parking brake is activated by a nearby button on a panel below the round dashboard display.
The interior is basically the same as in the electric Cooper, with a new 9.4-inch round central infotainment screen running the Mini's operating system (OS) 9.
