4 tips from therapists on what to do when you feel lonely

The promotion of individualism and excessive solitude have led many people to complete isolation. To the point where he has everything yet nothing at the same time. Some individuals help themselves with professional help, but these are some of the tips from therapists on what to do when you feel lonely.

We live in a time when loneliness as a kind of epidemic. Children, adolescents, the elderly - everyone is lonely, although the world has never offered such unlimited opportunities for socializing.

They are in the US conducted testing of the Loneliness Scale (English UCLA Loneliness Scale), in which it is 20,000 respondents responded to 20 statements, such as “Nobody really knows me well.”, “There are people I can talk to.” etc. The scale ranges between 20 and 80, and a score above 43 is a marker loneliness. The final value after analyzing all respondents was 44, and Generation Z turned out to be in favor the loneliest group.

Almost half of the participants she said yes sometimes or always feel lonely. More than 40 percent of those surveyed said yes sometimes or often feel that their relationships with other people are not important. Just a few more than half participants said yes interacts with people every day.

Individuals around the world are grappling with the question of how to get rid of the feeling of loneliness, and here are some small things you can implement in your life to avoid this problem as much as possible. Four American female therapists offer concrete advice, what steps you need to take, when you feel lonely.

1. Start with casual conversations with different people you meet every day. When you go to your favorite coffee shop, talk to someone and talk about the weather or the music that is currently playing in the coffee shop. Don't worry about having to talk for a long time, think of the conversation as a short, seemingly impersonal interaction. This can reduce feelings of isolation as you begin to build your social network while practicing how to strike up conversations with people you want to become friends with.

2. Enjoy the company of yourself. Many people long for the company of others because they are afraid of emptiness and the uncomfortable feeling of being alone. But being around others just because you feel lonely will only make you feel more desperate. So learn to enjoy your company: meditate, read or watch TEDx videos to encourage you to journal. Focus on the things you are grateful for, not the things you want but don't have. Relaxation with dancing, food and singing is also important.

3. He often tells his patients to go back to their family and consider that family is the main source for EVERYTHING. When people start writing letters to their parents or making weekly phone calls with siblings, it can have a big impact on their overall mood. Learning about family history and spending time with relatives is a way to remind a lonely person that their life is part of a bigger story.

4. First, find out why you are lonely. Lonely people are often told to socialize if they feel like it, but this is not always the right way to solve problems. To really deal with loneliness, you need to understand why you feel lonely. If you feel lonely because of your relationships that lack depth or meaning, because you feel that the people close to you do not really know you, it would make sense to examine what is the obstacle on the way to building intimacy. Once you figure out why you feel lonely, you can learn how to fix it.
