5 exhibitions not to be missed this autumn (2021)

If you have a bit of an artistic soul in you or you are a history buff, then seeing the new exhibitions is definitely something that makes you happy. That is why we have prepared a list of exhibitions that can brighten up the shortening autumn days and fill your senses with inspiration and new knowledge.

1. 34. Graphic Biennale Ljubljana

Ljubljana Graphic Biennale boasts a rich tradition, as it was founded way back in 1955. In the sixty years of its existence, the event tirelessly responded to the constantly changing socio-political context, while at the same time forming its own identity and strategies.

34th Ljubljana Graphic Biennale focuses on technological development and his unrealized potentials and tells against the background of social and environmental unrest and the pandemic the story of Iskra Delta and ghosts of the "lost future", who are persecuting her. The exhibition takes place in the building International Graphic Art Center, surrounding park and several other venues in the city. Many talented artists participated in it, among others John Akomfrah, Astrosuka, BCAA system, Joshua Citarella, Simon Denny and Diffractions Collective. She is the artistic director Nevenka Šivavec, and the curator Tjaša Pogačar.

There is an entrance fee 10 € (€6 for pupils, students and pensioners), and the exhibition will last until November 21. You can watch it from Tuesday to Sunday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

2. Picasso: A letter in a drawing

Modern gallery is giving away this autumn Pablo Picasso, one of the most important artists of all time and a pioneer of 20th century art.
October 25 marks the 140th anniversary of his birth, and on this occasion you will be able to see his illustrations, which were created around the middle of the last century and come from a private collection in Italy. The illustrations show us how Picasso could approach the question in the middle of the last century, also from the point of view of graphic techniques illustrating various literary genres respectively illustrated books.

You will be able to see the exhibition from September 30 to January 9, and the ticket will cost you 5 € (€2.5 for pupils, students and pensioners). The modern gallery is open from Tuesday to Sunday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

3. Golden herring

Golden herring is an exhibition on the 200th anniversary of the first museum in Slovenia, of the National Museum of Slovenia. Gold is one of the most precious materials used in the past to make objects that embodied power, reputation and high social position the owner. These are not the only features of this special item. Gold can also have a symbolic and figurative meaning expresses different values. Not only can objects made of gold (or decorated with gold) be admired from artistic aspect, we can also connect them with major milestones, events and personalities from the history of Slovenia.

The central exhibition is divided into three segments: Power and authority, Honor and glory and Wealth and luxury. On display are objects from master collections of the National Museum of Slovenia, and the exhibition also includes objects from the collections of other Slovenian museums. The exhibition will last until February 2nd, and the ticket price is 8 € (€4 for pupils, students and pensioners). You can visit the museum at Muzejska Street 1 in Ljubljana from Monday to Sunday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

4. Polona Friday - Nature and man

Art exhibition of works by the artist Nature and man takes place in Galleries of the "Jožef Stefan" Institute, and you can see the works on it Half-day Friday. The painter whose guide is outlook on life, matter and form and that something more, in his creation he focuses on the seemingly easy chosen motifs from the everyday life of people in urban environments, and also in rural areas. They are close to her metropolitan scenes, where the density of bodies is so massive that their bodies become one.

The exhibition will last until October 4, and the gallery is open everyday. There is no entrance fee.

5. Nature of Castle Hill

On Ljubljana Castle a very special exhibition awaits you. The nature of Castle Hill is an exhibition of jewelry designers Martine Obid Mlakar and Nataše Grandovec. Artists explore different layers coexistence of man and nature, an attitude that is part of our urban everyday life. Jewelry can invite k detail, which reminds of already familiar stories, or reveals hidden meanings. With unique pieces, the authors interpret walks along the avenue of chestnut trees, the story of the vine, discover Fleischmann's botany, enter into a dialogue with Plečnik, look back on historical periods and much more.

You will be able to see the exhibition from September 16 to November 28. There is no entrance fee.
