The British royal family rents out their luxurious mansions and estates when they are not using them themselves. Here are a handful of royal residences where even mere mortals can stay, if only for one night.

Queen Elizabeth and other members of the royal family went to Balmoral, an estate in the Scottish Highlands, every summer. King Charles III. however, he prefers his house on the Birkhall estate, which he inherited from his mother in 2002. While the castle is certainly the main attraction, there are 150 buildings on the estate - including cottages that can be rented out.
One of them, the royally rustic Rhebreck Cottage, looks out over a picturesque valley and has a lounge with a log stove. All properties have the option of local chef services.
Sandringham Estate, England
Like Balmoral, the Sandringham estate is one of the royal estates personally owned by the monarch. During the reign of Queen Elizabeth, it was better known as the place where the royal family spent the December holidays every year, and it looks like King Charles III will continue the tradition. Although an invitation to Christmas lunch may be hard to come by, the former head gardener's house is available to rent all year round.
It is called the Garden House and overlooks the ornamental garden that abuts the main building. Close by is Princess Diana's childhood home, Park House, which has been converted into a hotel for travelers with special needs and their guests.
Restormel Manor, England
Restormel Manor from the 15th century has been the Cornish home of King Charles III for several years. The mansion boasts both an indoor pool and tennis court, and when not in residence, the estate is available for rent. The nine-bedroom mansion sleeps 18 people and spans three separate wings, so it can be divided into three parts (each with its own kitchen and entrance).
The central part of the building is the most formal, with an airy living room and a large, elegant pale blue dining room. There are smaller living spaces in both outer tracts.
Llwynywermod, Wales
The area around Llwynywermod, the Welsh estate of King Charles III, is well-provided with accommodation. Architect Craig Hamilton transformed the property, originally designed as a model farm, into what now comprises three cottages and a threshing house, as well as a main house for the use of the then Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.
Among the vacation rentals is the North Range, a converted barn decorated with a contemporary and local flair. In keeping with the new king's environmental commitment, the North Range is almost entirely sustainable, with a wood chip boiler and renewable electricity.
Mey Castle, Scotland
Until her death in 2002, Mey Castle was the beloved home of Queen Elizabeth II. Now the foundation that manages it regularly opens it to the public. He thus turned one of his cabins, the Captain's House, into a rental property.
It includes a 20-meter conservatory that looks out over the well-tended garden and offers a wide view of the sea. The estate is also home to the Granary Lodge - a ten bedroom B&B situated between the castle and the coast, with beautiful traditional interiors.
