Kenneth Branagh returns as legendary detective Hercule Poirot in 'A Haunting in Venice (2023)' as he tackles supernatural crime in the romantic canals of Venice.
When you think of Agatha Christie, you might first think of complex crimes and brilliant detectives. But what if you added a dash of the supernatural? In the latest movie "A Haunting in Venice (2023)” Poirot (Kenneth Branagh) is confronted with a crime that may have been committed by a… ghost?
After solving a murder on the Orient Express and a death on the Nile, it is Hercule Poirot (starring and directed by Kenneth Branagh) is back with an extraordinary seasonal mystery. “Fear in Venice” follows Poirot as he is forced out of retirement to solve a chilling séance case that goes horribly wrong on Halloween.
The film is based on a novel Agatha Christie “Hallowe'en Party” and unravels a crime from the other side, with Poirot's prime suspect being a ghost determined to haunt him. “Fear in Venice” combines mystery with the macabre – and an all-star cast – to deliver perhaps the creepiest female detective yet.
In post-war Venice, a retired Poirot is reluctant to attend a séance. But when one of the guests is murdered, it's up to the former detective to solve the mystery. Interestingly, the screenplay was inspired by Dame Agatha Christie's 1969 novel “Hallowe'en Party”, but the setting of the story is transferred from the UK to Venice, Italy. This is the first time this story has been adapted into a feature film.
The 1 hour 43 minute film will be released on September 15, 2023. It stars Kenneth Branagh, Jamie Dornan, Kelly Reilly, Tina Fey and Michelle Yeoh.
