A stunning 42.5 m long trimaran - named Adastra was built in China back in 2012. A year later, it won the award for the best "yacht" design 2013. And ever since then, it has been stirring the imagination of sailors both with its appearance and "technical" data.
Adastra is a most apt name for a 42.5 meter trimaran – a vessel that looks as if it has just landed from outer space. ("Ad astra" is a Latin term that translates as "to the stars").
It was designed by a British designer John Shuttleworth for McConaghy Boats at the behest of a shipping magnate Antony Marden. The latter set the designer the challenge of creating an exceptionally beautiful yacht that has low fuel consumption and is capable of covering extraordinary distances with all the comfort of super yachts. The materials used are modern composites, such as carbon, Kevlar and carbon fiber – which contribute to an extremely low overall weight and therefore efficiency. This is how the trimaran was created, which, in addition to the master bedroom, offers two cabins for guests and quarters for the crew. The latter sail the world's seas at speed up to 23 knots and in ideal conditions they overcome with a single refueling 10,000 mileage.
