Airbnb has announced it's looking for the 'world's craziest accommodations' and will help cover the bills for building them with its OMG! funds in the amount of 10 million dollars. The competition was named "OMG!" because they really want unique and completely different accommodations from the company.
OMG! fund is an open competition in which 100 winning applicants will receive 100,000 $ to build their unusual apartment. Thus, architects, designers and craftsmen can apply to submit their vision in the form of "plans and video". The expert committee will evaluate the ideas according to their originality, feasibility, guest experience and, of course, sustainability. Applications are accepted until July 22, 2022 — at this web address.
The competition builds on the growing trend of flexible living that has emerged over the past two years. As a result, travelers are looking for the most unexpected places. Last month, the company unveiled its new Airbnb Categories platform feature, which contextually organizes accommodations by style and type, so that searching is more than just entering location and dates into a search box. Many categories can thus include surfing, camping, and of course the category OMG! This category is designated for the most amazing vacation rentals.
Added more than 30,000 likes in the OMG category! Since launching the category last month, Airbnb is looking for another 100 new ones. Entries to the public competition will be reviewed by a judging panel of boundary-pushing design authorities, including Iris Apfel , architect Koichi Takada and Airbnb OMG! departments.
