At this year's CES 2021, Sony showed its take on drones, which are so popular with videographers, and announced its active involvement in the drone market - all under the new Airpeak brand.
New drone it is supposed to be the smallest "drone" that can carry a camera of the Alpha family and is designed for video content creation and professional photography.
At the moment, there are very few concrete details about the new drone or system, although Sony has mentioned that it is exploring the use of drones for capturing landscape and urban footage. He introduced her in the video Airpeak, which acts as the camera they used to create footage for their Vision-S concept car from last year's CES. Model featured on CES 2021, is designed like a quadcopter and has two landing gears that retract upwards during flight so as not to interfere with video capture.
While this is Sony's first drone, its cameras are among the best in the industry. They are so popular that drone market leader DJI already offers mounts for Sony Alpha cameras. And the idea of Sony applying that expertise to drone-focused products is certainly intriguing. However, the drone segment is extremely difficult and demanding, and DJI's advantage seems practically elusive.
Sony originally announced the Airpeak brand for the end of 2020, but we should see the first products already this spring.
